Tucked into the hillside above the lovely River Greta is the quiet village of Burton-in-Lonsdale. Visible from miles around, the 19th Century church spire has become something of a landmark whilst the nearby remains of Burton Castle provide another interesting feature in this landscape. During the 18th and 19th centuries the village was nationally renowned for its 13 properties, two of which continue to trade today in the nearby villages of Bentham and Ingleton. Visitors can tour these two wonderful, working examples of the area’s heritage. The village of Burton itself hosts two shops, a post office and a welcoming pub. Around the town are a variety of walks though areas of interest whilst further afield are the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
