Richards Castle is a small village, steeped in history. The castle that gave its name to this small, ancient borough pre-dates the Norman Conquest by about 16 years, though when it was built it was thoroughly Norman in design. Today the fortress is reduced mainly to its earthworks and foundations. The bailey wall still stands twenty feet high in places and there are remains of several towers and an early gatehouse around the perimeter and now houses the Shropshire Regimental museum. As well as being a fantastic place of historic interest itself, there are many other attractions in the area. The surrounding Shropshire Hills have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are perfect for walking, cycling and wildlife-spotting. Other local attractions include Ludlow, with its lively programme of events & festivals, its famed architecture and its excellent restaurants and pubs. Nearby are the Secret Hills Discovery Centre, Stokesay Castle, National Trust properties and the B
