Vacation Rental Description
250 year old stone and timber barns, The Byre and The Dairy, with many original features combined with modern day comforts. Stupendous views from the properties, which are half way between Ludlow and Church Stretton. Ludlow is regarded by many as the quintessential medieval town, with well preserved castle, annual Festivals of culture and food and with 2 Michelin starred restaurants serving wonderful locally sourced food. It's also Britain's first Slow Food town. Church Stretton is a former spa town (water now free on tap from a spring in the town) known as Little Switzerland, centred as it is in the heart of the Shropshire Hills an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Sleepy villages, castles and medieval churches and villages abound in the area that poet A.E.Housman called 'the quietest under the sun'. A short drive away is Ironbridge with it's World Heritage Site museums (our guests can have complimentary tickets on request which give a passport to over 20 sites). County town Shrewsbury is around 35 minutes by road and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm where the BBCtv's Victorian Farm programmes are made is just a few minutes away from Highgrove. We currently have SPECIAL OFFERS of FREE entry to Ironbridge and Acton Scott. See our website for details.
We are close to the Welsh border area known as The Marches, steeped in the history of the Welsh and the English and many Shropshire places have Welsh names, reflecting the change in borders in past times.
Our cottages have a patio each plus a barbecue area in the pretty cottage garden. You will arrive to find a welcome tray with home made cake, tea & coffee with fresh milk, fruit, flowers and for visits of 3 or more days, a bottle of good wine.
A meal delivery service is available from our neighbouring Egon Ronay award winning gourmet chef, at surprisingly reasonable prices.
Shops, banks and supermarket are all just one mile away in Craven Arms, also the home of The Secret Hills Discovery Centre and fascinating Land of Lost Content museum.
As owners living right next door we are on hand to meet and welcome you to this treasure in the heart of this outstandingly beautiful area, one that, like so many of our guests you will surely want to return to again and again.
