Vacation Rental Description
Yr Hen Stablau is a recently renovated 1840s stables set in luxuriant gardens on a wooded hillside overlooking the Dyfi Valley between Pennal and Machynlleth. This peaceful, secluded and picturesque setting makes Yr Hen Stablau ideal if you want to relax, paint, read or write. It is also an excellent base for a more active holiday in this famously beautiful corner of Snowdonia.

• Walking - access to 2 mile nature trail to see wild flowers, stream, oak woods, lake, birds and panorama view of Dyfi estuary. Long walks further afield: Cadair Idris (8 miles), Darren Hendre and Cwm Maethlon (3 miles)
• Machynlleth (1 mile) – unspoilt market town with independent shops, swimming pool, Y Tabernacl arts centre, Owain Glyndwr Centre, pubs and restaurants
• Mountain bike hire & trails from Machynlleth
Pennal (1 mile) - village with Roman and Welsh nationalist history
• Centre for Alternative Technology (3 miles) - displays and activities on renewable energy and sustainable living
• Seaside - Aberdyfi (8 miles) with 5 miles of sandy beach, Yacht Club, watersports
• Children’s activities - Talyllyn Steam Railway with Thomas the tank engine, King Arthur’s Labyrinth, pony trekking, Dyfi Active activity days

Yr Hen Stablau is Welsh for The Old Stables. The conversion has been designed to preserve existing walls and features, use original stone, slates and timbers, and make the building energy efficient. Features are -

Smoking outside. Pets welcome but dogs must be kept away from the sheep in neighbouring farms. Ample parking. Shops 1 mile

Ground floor of Yr Hen Stablau is fully wheelchair accessible, including a bedroom, shower room and toilet, sitting room, kitchen/dining room, hall and access to the terraces front and back. Mobile hoist. All door handles disability friendly, and colour scheme is planned for good visibility of doors, windows, handles, floors, worktops and cupboards. Front door entrance level with the road.
Garden - Visitors have access to a footpath through the wonderful garden. It is at its best in spring and early summer with a stunning display of rhododendrons and azaleas. There are many other unusual shrubs and trees including pieris, tulip tree, redwood and eucryphia.

By road the cottage is approx 2 hrs from Birmingham, 1hr 15 mins from Shrewsbury, just off the A 493 between Machynlleth and Aberdyfi.

    Yr Hen Stablau was a working stables up to about 80-90 years ago, with stalls for four horses. It is part of Pantlludw estate which has been the home of our family since 1821.
