Vacation Rental Description
Poachers Pocket is a spacious yet cosy self-contained luxury apartment formed from the middle and upper floors of the north wing of the historic Cyffdy House which dates back to 1579. It was formerly the servants’ quarters and grain store and has its own private rear access – although on the middle floor of the house, curiously still at ground level and easily accessible to guests with limited mobility.
Poachers Pocket is located in the tiny hamlet of Parc, about 3 miles from the bustling market town of Bala, which takes just 6 minutes by car.
The grounds at Cyffdy extend to approximately 6 acres and the cottages and main house are all Grade 11 Liated. Poachers Pocket has its own fenced and gated garden with floodlighting, furniture and barbecue.
The rooms are spacious yet cosy and decorated mostly in Laura Ashley style.
Electric heating throughout. Quality bedinens, soft fluffy towels, bathmats, tea towels and fuel are included. No smoking in the property please. 1 small dog welcome – special rules apply. Please note that Poachers Pocket is offered at 2 price bands, for 4 or 6 guests, depending upon whether the additional optional bedroom is booked.
To the right of the porch on the middle and upper floors, the entrance is from the rear patio and garden. Entrance porch to dining kitchen. Level access to bathroom with bathtub, toilet and wash basin. 1 step up to cosy sitting room with soft slouch sofa, reclining chair, radiant fire and plasma TV /DVD. Also on this floor, two steps down from the hallway is an optional additional twin bedroom. This is particularly suitable for guests who prefer not to use the stairs. Stairs up to first floor leading to the master bedroom with simply stunning views, a king-sized bed and an en-suite bathroom with power shower. Twin-bedded room. Electric night storage heaters and panel heaters.
The kitchen is really well-equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave oven and fridge freezer. A ceramic hob and fan oven, slow cooker, toaster and cafetiere. A complimentary clothes drying service is availabe.
For younger guests, in the Cyffdy grounds there is a large paddock with resident sheep and lambs, and sledges are available for snowy holidays. The Timber Trail Play Area, constructed to ROSPA standards, provides endless hours of fun, with its cargo net and wobbly balance beam, and the Barn offers safe storage for bikes, boats and canoes and a (very basic!) place to have a get-together barbecue.
Freshly made beds, pre-heated cottage and a welcome Tray of tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival. Parking for several cars/boats per property. Groups are welcome, but sorry, no stag or hen parties.
Poachers Pocket is one of four 5-Star luxury properties on the same site. The cottages are far enough apart to be booked separately with complete privacy yet close enough to book in conjunction with each other for up t a maximum of 18 guests.

Owner Location Comment
Bala in Southern Snowdonia is known as the Gateway to Snowdonia. A small, friendly bustling market town just under an hours drive from the foot of Snowdon and famous for its wonderful scenery and outdoor activities. Llyn Tegid, named Bala Lake in English, which is the the largest natural lake in Wales is 4 miles long and offers its narrow gauge railway and a whole range of watersports including fishing, sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. Close to Bala is the National White water Centre at Frongoch, where kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting as well as many competitive events are held. The local area is teeming with outdoor adventure pursuits from off-road 4x4 to canyoning, quad-biking and paintballing to name but a few. Definitely an area to come to try out something new.
Bala is located centrally between 3 of Wales' top mountain-biking centres, Coed Y Brenin, Penmachno and Llandegla.
It is also an ideal area for the less energetic, with beautiful scenic walks, wonderful rolling countryside which becomes ever more craggy and dramatic progressing through Betws Y Coed and on up to Snowdon proper.
Only 40 minutes from Barmouths Blue-Flag beach, and under an hour to Portmeirion, Chester or Llangollen. Bala really is central to the very best of Wales. Knee-dep in castles, lakes and railways glaore, this really is an area of stunning scenery and unspoiled history.
