Vacation Rental Description
The Old Forge Pumphouse was originally built in 1939. In 2006 it was completely renovated in a modern style. The holiday accommodation is in an adjoining annexe to the owner's home. The property sits in a 2 acre plot with river frontage (Gwendraeth Fach). The annexe has one bedroom for accommodating two people. A small child could be accommodated on a sofa bed in the lounge area. The bathroom has a bath with shower attachment for washing hair and the kitchen / lounge area is well equipped with electric cooker, fridge, microwave, Sky TV (with sports package), DVD player and welcome pack. There is an outside seating area and we welcome guests to explore all of our 2 acre plot.
The local town of Kidwelly, with its castle, many pubs and food outlets is nearby. Brechfa Forest and the Brecon Beacons are within easy driving, as well as the market town of Carmarthen, Llanelli, Pembrey Country Park, Swansea and Gower. Lovely beaches in Pembrokeshire are within a short drive, along with the bustling town of Narberth, which has an abundance of food outlets, craft shops and places to explore. Kidwelly is ideally situated as a central point - there is always something to do whatever the weather.
Facilities
We provide all towels and bedlinen; liquid soap, toilet rolls, washing up liquid and a generous welcome pack. Also in the annexe is an iron / ironing board and hairdryer. A full sized snooker table is available in owners house. The annexe essentially sleeps 2 people but a 3rd can be accommodated with the following arrangements. We now provide a travel cot & highchair for small children, but would like to stress that the accommodation is only suitable for 3. We also have a sofabed, thus accommodating an older child or adult (again 3 people only). We do not charge extra for a child that uses the travel cot (please supply your own cot bedlinen), but will charge £30 per stay for use of the sofabed to cover the extra costs. Please advise in your correspondence to us.
Activities
Birdwatchers can enjoy seeing a wide variety of unusual birds from the property (including Buzzards, Kingfishers, Dippers and Red Kites), while there are many other bird habitates nearby. Fisherman can enjoy fishing rights that comes with the accommodation (subject to individual licence) and sea fishing locally.
Kidwelly itself offers many attractions. The medieval castle and old priory church are in the centre of town, whilst the industrial musuem is just outside at Mynddygarreg. The yearly carnival is held in July, whilst the castle offers medieval attractions during July and August. For the walkers there is the millenium Coastal Path and plenty of footpaths in the area.
Other local attractions include the recently opened Ffos Las Racecourse which is around 8km away; the Royal Botanical Gardens are 25 minute drive away; Dylan Thomas' Boathouse at Laugharne is around 30 minutes drive.

A deposit of 25% of the full rental is required at time of booking is non refundable. Balance is payable 8 weeks prior to let. Full payment at time of booking required for reservations made within 8 weeks of let. Lettings are from 2pm on the first day to 10am on the last day to allow for cleaning / changeover. We offer flexible terms at a daily rate - at present between £30 and £40 per night. We are just as happy for visitors to stay 1 night or as many nights as required. Please check the available page for the appropriate daily rate. The Annexe essentially sleeps 2 people, but we can acccommodate a third on the sofa bed / travel cot. For the sofabed a charge of £30 per visit will be added to cover the extra cost of preparation. One well behaved pet is behaved is welcome at a premium of £20 per pet per visit. Stays over two weeks are subject to negotiation.

A wonderful scenic venue in which to base yourself to explore the area. Cathy and Paul were fantastic hosts and the annex was very well equipped. The food pack was a great surprise on our arrival, and was most welcome. An altogether fantastic weekend, we will be back.

Thanks for making us so welcome in this wonderful cottage. The food pack was perfect and much appreciated. a lovely location and Poppy dog loved her walks in the countryside and on the beaches. We look forward to coming back.

Come and share the magic of our valley
Paul and I moved to The Old Forge Pumphouse in June 2009 to fulfil our ambition for a quieter, more restful life. Our life has definitely been quieter, but we have had the busiest year of our lives! The property had been renovated before we bought it, but we still had to put in the finishing touches (mirrors, curtain poles, wardrobes etc). The land was a blank canvas - the grass was thigh high, there were no flower beds, shed, or paths and the land was covered in bramble and nettle. We have gradually cleared, started putting in flower beds and fruit / veg areas, paths and a shed. Of course it is all work in progress, but the bare bones of our new life is taking place.
We opened the holiday let in August 2009 and have had a steady stream of visitors, all enjoying the peace and quiet of the valley; listening to the river rushing past; watching the fabulous bird life or visiting the many attractions this area has to offer. If you enjoy walking or cycling you can either take the coastal path or travel a short way up into the Brechfa forest or Brecon Beacons. There are many castles to explore, National Trust houses, gardens, market towns and sandy beaches. This area has something for everyone.
