Vacation Rental Description
This comfortable family run guest house/bed and breakfast offers an excellent base from which to discover the wonderful sights of Salisbury and Stonehenge. The rooms come complete with televisions, ensuite showers and toilet facilities and tea and coffe making facilities.
It is at the gateway to the Cranborne Chase area being near the A30 which passes the Fovant Badges on its route to Shaftesbury. There is excellent walking and the area is well known for its delightful country pubs which offer good local bears and food. The property has a good village pub nearby with open fires in Winter where an evening meal can be enjoyed with the locals. There is a 'gastro' pub in the next village, Burcombe, which offers fine cuisine. The area is steeped in history and their are delightful National Trust properties such as Phillips House at Dinton just 2 miles away, where a picnic can be enjoyed in its beautiful parklands. The village of Chicklade boasts another fine put, the Compasses with low beamed ceilings where the likes of Madonna and Guy Richie have been seen enjoying an atmospheric meal.
The Wilton Estate has a big influence on the area with the house open to the public in the summer. It has charming gardens and an adventure playground for children build to the highest quality. There is an outlet shopping centre in the village of Wilton which is of course famous for its sheep market and Wilton wool carpets.
For sporting folk, there is good fishing to be had in the river Nadder which runs through the village together with the Wylie and Avon which are nearby. The famous shooting estate of Gurston Down is just over the escarpment in the Chalke Valley where days can be hired and excellent high birds fly between the coombes. For those who are interested this is also the site of the famous Gurston Hill climb. Other shooting estates are Prescombe, Compton Chamberlayne and Hilcot. Details can be obtained from the Proprietor of Briden House.
Wedding guests are frequent visitors to the house when arrangements can be made for changing before the wedding service to suit the client. The house has sometimes been used for brides for their preparation before their weddings and for their first night when candles and special detail is added for their pleasure.
The house has been recently refurbished with new kitchens and dining rooms being decorated to a high standard with attractive interior design throughout. The property is double glazed and warm with airy and spacious rooms. Taxi services can be arranged by the proprietor.
For those on holiday Barford St Martin is an excellent stop off on one's way from London to the West Country for those who don't wish to take the fast road and who don't mind missing everyting along the back roads. It is a good stop off for a couple of days for those wishing to explore the Wiltshire and Dorset countryside where time doesn't matter and there is time to stop off for the occasional cream tea and pint in the local pub.
Happy travelling.
