Vacation Rental Description
The Old Chapel; not actually an old chapel, but the meeting rooms belonging to a chapel. The cottage is detached and has been sympathetically converted retaining much rustic character and charm.

The downstairs has a very large lounge, about 30' x 16' with high ceilings, and a gothic chandelier (and a stag's horns thrown in)! The walls and ceiling are pine-panelled, giving a real feeling of warmth and tranquility.

The downstairs area is mostly open-plan. The lounge contains 3 settees (all very comfortable), a large coffee table, a chapel pew, a wood-burning stove, a 42" flat-screen TV, and a DVD player. There are many DVDs for your use. The lounge leads onto the dining area, with table and seating for up to 6 people.

Off the lounge (on the ground floor) there is a New England-style double bedroom. This contains a double bed (very comfortable), bed-side tables, wardrobe and chest of drawers.

Next to the dining room on the ground floor is a large utility room which contains the central heating boiler, plus a washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave/slow cooker.

Next to this is the bathroom, which has a large bath with shower attachment, a separate walk-in shower cubicle, a wash-hand basin, toilet and bidet.

The kitchen is small but well equipped with Miele dishwasher, cooker and hob,and a fridge/freezer. There are lots of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, plus a slow cooker.

There is wi-fi broadband at the cottage, so please feel free to bring your laptop.

The upstairs bedroom is galleried and overlooks the lounge. There is pine ballustrading to this area which can be curtained off for privacy. This room has a high pitched ceiling, with pine beams to the rafters.

Because of the layout of the cottage, it is not very suitable for young children, but we will happily discuss the property's downsides with you and you can decide if it is/is not suitable for your child.

To the front of the cottage is a beautiful forest view which can be seen from all points in the lounge/dining room. Forest walks are literally on the doorstep, just 7 metres from the front french windows.

The garden to the back is a courtyard garden laid mainly with slate chippings. Here there is a garden table with 4 chairs, a barbecue and 4 reclining chairs. The garden can also be lit at night, so weather permitting you can read in the garden.

We purchased this property in 2008 because it was the first one we'd seen which oozed peace and tranquility. It is a bit 'quirky', a lovely place for a holiday. We have furnished it to make it feel 'a home from home' with all the creature comforts we so often take for granted. The beds and furniture are all very comfortable.

The village of Yorkley where the cottage is situated has about 300 inhabitants, so although the cottage is on the edge of the forest, you are not 'in the woods' so to speak! The cottage is situated up a small lane, the third of four properties, and then nothing but woodland walks.

There are 2 pubs in the village. One is about a 4 minute walk, needed decorating 50 years ago, but sells extremely good food at very good prices. (Sunday roast usually consists of meat and 8 veg, plus a choice of 12 home-made puddings! The other pub in the village has regular evening events, often with music and they sell all organic food (of the pizza/hamburger/pasta variety).

The village also has a 2 small shops, a post office and a medical centre.

The nearest town is Lydney (about 2.5 miles away) and here you will find more shops and also a Tesco supermarket which is open until 10 pm each night.
