Mill Cottage is a listed luxury holiday cottage on the River Piddle in Dorset’s Thomas Hardy Country, Its secluded idyllic riverside position in the Purbeck rural conservation area is stunning and unique. “Jurassic Park”, 25 miles of Magnificent West Dorset World Heritage Coastline is on your doorstep. The Rivers Piddle and nearby Frome have some excellent fishing.
It offers spacious entertaining with high quality furnishings for ultimate comfort and relaxation, both inside and outside in the large and secluded garden. Mill cottage is ideal for large groups of up to ten friends and family gatherings to celebrate special occasions. Family holidays and intimate romantic breaks will also be perfect here.
Lexie and John Cook purchased the Mill at auction in 2002. Sympathetic design in conjunction with the conservation officer took 3 years and restoration took a further year with completion in July 2006. Mill Cottage is now an attractive and comfortable home embodying every essential modern facility and a number of breathtaking features. Nevertheless, in the interest of conservation, all of the important historical features have been retained and repaired where necessary.
The accommodation consists of five bedrooms (double or twin) with ensuite bathrooms for up to ten guests. The Hall, sitting room and dining room all have seating for ten people. There are terraces for alfresco dining at the front and riverside of the Mill and the Balinese Gazebo with traditional Dorset Thatch sits in the garden above the flood plain and is ideal for enjoying the tranquillity of the garden and the murmur of the River Piddle.
The former stable is a spacious well-planned kitchen boasting an Aga, low voltage halogen lighting and electrically operated skylights for controllable ventilation. The old village bus garage has been converted into the studio with its mezzanine bedroom and acrylic and stainless steel stairs.

Kitchen with cathedral roof and 3 electrically operated skylights. Two sets of French doors open onto the riverside and front terraces, with tables, chairs and umbrellas for sitting out / alfresco dining or a barbeque. For those who like cooking, the kitchen is a dream. The oil fired Aga and the conventional electric oven and hobs provide the tools for “Chef” to prepare a feast for 2 or 10! The range and quality of utensils has been carefully selected to please the most discerning of cooks.
