Vacation Rental Description
Our four cottages and barn are situated around a courtyard featuring a rill culminating in a small wildlife pond, in the centre of our 17th century working farm. They have been recently renovated from the old derelict farm buildings, and retain original beams giving character with beamed and vaulted ceilings, but all mod-cons.
The buildings are of warm mellow stone with slate roofs. Three of the cottages (Millers Cottage, The Wheatsheaf and The Cobb)are all on one level, although they do have one or two steps leading up to them. They are spacious inside with vaulted ceilings giving an airy feel, but at the same time feel cosy. The living area is open plan with kitchen and Millers Cottage and The Wheatsheaf have access directly to the enclosed lawned garden to the back. The large double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, and cot and high chair are available if required for which there is ample room. Millers Cottage has divans and also has some privacy for a third person with a divan provided (suitable for a child). The Wheatsheaf has a super-king size bed and The Cobb has twin beds.
The Granary has stairs with the twin bedroom upstairs and the rest of the accomodation downstairs. It has a cosy low beamed ceiling in the sitting/dining room. The kitchen has a vaulted beamed ceiling giving a bright airy feel. It has a shower room downstairs.
The rill runs past the front of the cottages and gives a lovely tranquil sound of running water to the courtyard.
The owners work very closely with the environmental officers to preserve the wildlife and fauna of the area, and have been rewarded with otters and water-voles inhabiting the farm. Besides this deer can be seen grazing the fields around the cottages and there are also badgers, foxes and rabbits. There is much bird life too, with swans, herons, geese, ducks and buzzards all seen regularly.
The rolling hills surrounding the farm have many walks crossing them, including a couple of long distance footpaths, and pets are welcome. We also have stables and paddock available for visitors wishing to bring their own horse and there are many bridlepaths and small little used lanes.
Although secluded, we are not totally isolated and the nearest village with shop, post office and pub serving food is only about 15 minutes walk. The local public golf course also serves food and is reputed to be one of the prettiest golf courses - about 3 miles away. There are numerous delightful villages around the area, many with pubs serving food, and there are several historic towns within easy reach. The Jurassic coast is within 30 minutes drive.
