Vacation Rental Description
The Gatehouse is a single-storey, recently-converted barn, designed for comfort and convenience. Its location provides space and seclusion at the property, but it is a short drive down the hill to Charmouth village. The sand and pebble beach is a level walk from the village and amenities there include a café, a fossil shop, and the Heritage Centre where the geology of this famous Jurassic coast is illustrated and explained. The walk back up the hill from the village/beach to the Gatehouse is only for the seasoned walker. However, if you ARE a walker a public footpath passes through the site, opening up the prospect of rambling on a large scale
Access to the Gatehouse is via a 200 metre, all-weather farm track, and a hard standing, private parking area is provided for up to three cars. The Gatehouse is a comfortable base for up to four adults to enjoy a rural retreat, with a format that means you can step straight out into the countryside. Outside the main room is a private patio beyond which are the remnants of an old orchard (three trees remaining!) and a wide area of rough grassland.
The Gatehouse was part of a farm building complex but is set apart from the other buildings (which are ‘off-limits’ but provide a pleasant backdrop for your holiday cottage). In all directions from the Gatehouse, you cross at least one field before reaching the rest of civilisation!
Charmouth has a post office, a paper shop, a butcher, a fish and chip bar, cafes, a well-stocked grocery store and two pubs.
