Bakers Mill Farm is situated in the beautiful, peaceful river Axe valley surrounded by the rolling hills of West Dorset. The farm dates back to the early 1600's and the old farm buildings have been carefully restored to create a barn sleeping 6 and four cottages sleeping 2/3 in each. Threshers Barn has been sympathetically restored to provide a cosy, but bright and airy holiday home. Full of character, it has many original features, and is situated in a courtyard setting along with the four cottages in this tranquil location - yet close to many attractions. The barn is a Grade II listed building, built of flint stone, and along with the cottages, and games room surround a courtyard, featuring a rill culminating in a small wildlife pond. The farm owners are very interested in conservation, and work with the environmental officers to achieve a wonderful habitat that has rewarded them with otters and water-voles being attraced to the farm. Deer can be seen grazing in the fields from Threshers Barn, and there are badgers, foxes and rabbits on the farm too. There is an abundance of birdlife too, with herons, swans, geese, ducks, and buzzards all seen regularly. You are welcome to stroll around the farm which is stocked with beef cattle, but dogs must be kept under control. The two local villages are situated about 20 minutes walk and 40 minutes walk along little used country lanes. Both have pubs serving food, and one has the most amazing far-reaching views across the countryside. There is a public golf course also serving food which is reputed to be one of the prettiest golf courses about 3 miles from us. The World Heritage Jurassic Coast is about 20 - 30 minutes drive, and there are numerous old market towns and picturesque villages made famous by Thomas Hardy are within easy driving reach for days out. Cricket St Thomas (To the Manor Born) is about 20 minutes drive and a wonderful day out for those with children. Beaminster, with more than 200 listed buildings is 4 miles away. There are numerous walks from the farm, great for those with dogs. We also have a games room with snooker, table tennis and darts. For those with horses, why not bring your horse too. We have stables and a paddock for turn out, and riding is a great way to see the local countryside, with many bridlepaths and lanes about us. There are many other activities in the local area - a swimming pool in the local town 4 miles away, horse-riding, fishing, clay pigeon shooting a short drive away, and llama trekking in the local village.
