Vacation Rental Description
Bidwell Farm and its two 5 star cottages sit within the Blackdown Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - in the sleepy, Domesday agricultural village of Up-Ottery. The River Otter which gives its name to the village, meanders through this pretty valley. Up-Ottery was voted a “Best Kept Village” and has a splendid, welcoming church dating in parts back to 1180 and an equally welcoming pub. Both are a delightful six minute walk away. Of an evening you can soak up the atmosphere of a true farmers’ pub, surrounded by conversations in the gentle Devon burr about skittles and the soil, themes as winding as the lanes themselves.
Bidwell farmhouse dates to 1717 and nestles in its own five secluded acres of pasture and garden with stunning views from all angles including from our own three-quarter acre trout pond.
Guests may stroll the fragrant lanes, or fossil-hunt at the nearby Jurassic Coast. Out of season, circular walks around our Parish footpaths can end in a gallop back to a roaring log fire or a cosy meal at our village inn. The owners, living on site, pride themselves on making their guests feel thoroughly welcome and on ensuring comfort throughout the stay.
The Haybarton restored from its original use as a hay-store, conserves the best of its traditional features while providing very spacious modern facilities. Its three generous en suite double bedrooms (one ground floor twin-bedded) sleep six in elegant comfort. The spacious, well-appointed farmhouse kitchen can seat twelve at its solid refectory table. It has a beautiful, beamed and comfortable sitting room with wood burner and 42” television with Sky programmes.
“We've just spent a wonderful New Year break with our friends and all our beautiful daughters in the Haybarton. The accommodation is simply perfect, such a beautiful location, we couldn't have asked for anything more. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would love to make a return visit ourselves one day. Thanks to Richard and Patsy for making us so welcome” [Wiltshire 07-08]
The Cow Byre was recently converted into an award winning cottage with three large, comfortable double bedrooms all en suite - one ground floor twin-bedded, one lower ground with a 6 ft bed that can convert to twin if requested and one upstairs double. The Byre is a delightful mix of traditional and modern, with beams and wood burning stove but enjoys a contemporary open plan living/dining area with large wall mounted television and Sky programmes.
“We have enjoyed every minute of every day here. We love everything about Bidwell Farm. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. The Cow Byre has everything provided to create the perfect holiday. We managed walks 2, 3 and 4 in the Upottery leaflet. Hope to do the last walk when we return”. [ Chichester 08 ]
