Tilley’s Cottage is the perfect base for family holidays or friends to get together. Moretonhampstead is an ancient market town situated on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. It sits in the shelter of hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth. Dartmoor is on the door step and no matter which road you take you cannot fail to be impressed by the breathtaking views. The town is about 15 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter and 40 min from the beaches. The town offers visitors’ opportunities for hiking, cycling, and pony trekking, fishing and just relaxing. There are a variety of cafes, pubs, local shops, tea shops and a wonderful Deli. There is also a heated outdoor public swimming pool open during the summer. There are many NT properties close by, one of them being Castle Drogo, only 7 miles & the miniature pony centre for children is only 5 min away. Bovey Castle and Guidleigh Park are very near for a special treat.

We have stayed at the above property twice and found it very comfortable and welcoming. The fresh scones on arrival with wood to burn in the cosy woodburning stove is a good start. The cottage is warm and cosy. It is within walking distance of everything one could need and yet also near to the moors and one can even walk from the door and within minutes be 'away from it all'. It was easy to park the car nearby in the village carpark and the delicatessen next door were always on hand with 'foodie' ideas for the next meal and with an excellent pub 2 minutes away the only problem was trying not to eat too much! I highly recommend this cottage as a good central base for the area in a friendly village

We had a fantastic stay in Tilley's Cottage, the cottage itself is extremely clean and very well equipped with the utmost comfort in mind.
It's location is fantastic for exploring Dartmoor and further afield.
The deli next door is an absolute winner, their sausage and bacon sandwiches are a great way to start a day of exploration!
The owners are very friendly and have provided a great information pack within the cottage, along with a contact number for themselves.

We will be recommending Tilley's Cottage to our friends and can't wait to visit again ourselves!

We opted for a relaxed holiday in Devon to avoid the UK airports and all the hastle that goes with flying.

Tilly's cottage made our choice one of the best decisions we've ever made. The cottage exceeded our expectations in every respect - comfort, location, functionality - it was a joy to spend time there - the only challenge we faced was whether to head off for a Dartmoor walk (and cream tea) or to stay in and relax (the sofa is very addictive!)

We enjoyed the latter as much as the former. We had 2 great evening meals at the White Hart hotel (the staff were really friendly and efficient) and our 15 month old daughter shuffled around the lounge area to her hearts content. Michael Howard's Deli / Butchers counter next door did some good business out of us during our stay and we were very impressed. We also had some gentle strolls around Moretonhampstead and ended up in one of the cafes or pubs for some well earned refreshment.

This cottage is better than the photos...the attention to detail and the amazingly lavish upholstery and furnishings outstrip any hotel I've stayed in. Our 4 & & year old loved the nooks and crannies to hide in in this character property. The surrounding countryside is stunning for walks. There is tha added bonus of a first class deli next door , a co-op 100 metres away and three pubs within 400 metres so all very handy.

VERY cosy and welcoming with everything on the doorstep. We could walk from the door towards Dartmoor and there are numerous well signed walks with the added benefit of being able to dry our wet boots and anoraks in the warm boiler room on our return and then sit by a roaring fire! Ideal for 2 couples with different TV tastes and even an extra sitting area upstairs for reading in peace! We had an excellent meal at the pub a few metres from the cottage and the next door deli is the best ever, which made eating in a pleasure as well. We had had concerns about the car beforehand, but it worked well leaving it in the nearby village carpark.

Nikki and Nigel Webber live in the Dartmoor National Park with their two children. They are great walkers and bought Tilley's Cottage as it was perfect for walking and right on the doorstep for great food! The cottage itself has lots of character which is perfect year round. It works for families as well as a couple on their own and is cosy, warm and beautifully finished. We just loved the cottage and Moretonhampstead! Having purchase the property at the end of 2007 we refurbished the whole property which we think and hope you will love.

We are delighted with how the cottage has rented over the last two years and our guest book is teastament to that - every page without exception is full of great comments and some fanastic tips as to where to go (and where not to go!) Everyone grows to love Moretonhamsptead and its friendly locals. We bought the cottage as Moreton has the best food shops and some of the best places to eat even though it is only small plus we love that there are so many fantastic walks right from the front door. Plently of people have arrived by car but then not moved the car for a week which sometime is a real holiday in itself. Other people have been further afield than we would on a day away - they clearly don't have young children in the car!
