Owner Location Comment
Golant is the most wonderful village on the west bank of the River Fowey. Located up river about a mile or so from the harbour town of Fowey, the tide goes almost right out at Fowey and you can walk on the sandy river bed (know your tide table and don't get caught by an incoming tide. The All Saints Way passes through the centre of the village. It is a fantastic public footpath taking you right into Fowey through woods and along the side of the Fowey River. There is a canoe club in Golant which is well used and at high tide, canoeists can often be seen paddling up and down the river.
The local pub, The Fisherman's Arms, has a garden overlooking the river and serves lunch and evening bar meals which can be eaten outside thus taking in the breath-taking scenery. On the river many boats have mooring, through the harbour office in Fowey. There is also local mooring available in 'The Pill' a tidal inlet protected from the main river by the railway to Fowey used by china clay trains delivering to Fowey harbour ships for export.
There is plenty of public car parking in Golant. In the winter, parking near the local green is available at no cost. In the summer, this is closed off to the public and a pay and display car park is located on the quayside. There is also parking at low tide in front of the pub. This is tidal so don't leave your car there near high tide!
The village of Golant has a wonderful atmosphere. The Fisherman's Arms hosts many events, including beer festivals on most bank holidays. The village has a carnival in August along with a Walking on Water competition, Raft Race and fancy dress competition. The New Year party in the Fisherman's Arms is wonderful (fancy dress as is the whole of Cornwall) and Easter Bonnet Parade and Egg Rolling competition down the village hill make this a truly superb and very Cornish village to visit. If holidaying there, you will become a local within the week! Many visitors return year after year to soak up the refreshing vibe and rejuvenating calm that a village such as this will impart.
Golant village on the south coast of Cornwall welcomes you.
