History and Brief Guide to Mineshop and Crackington Haven
We moved to Mineshop in 1966 and converted/built the Cottages soon after, before this the Lee family owned the Valley and ran a Market Garden, growing Potatoes, Vegetables, Daffodils, Strawberries etc, on the whole of the South facing side of the valley, all this was before the days of large machinery and was done solely by hand! In the spring the Daffodils which still grow in the Valley are a picture
You can walk to the Beach at Crackington Haven by taking the footpath through the Valley fields and Woodland. Distance is about 1 mile and takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
A German E Boat on tow to Bristol broke her tow rope and ended up on the Beach next door to Crackington called Tremoutha. Although the Boat was dismantled by Cornish Wreckers her three V20 engines still remain on the beach and can be seen at low tide by walking around the rocks to the next Beach, but be careful not to cut off by the rising Tide!!
