Vacation Rental Description
A Grade I listed 11th Century Moated Manor house lovingly restored by Glyn & Anne Powell-Evans. The house is surrounded by beautiful Victorian gardens and is situated on the edge of the Surrey Hills. We are able to offer seclusion and tranquility within easy reach of excellent local amenities.
The library is comfortably furnished and well stocked with interesting books and magazines, just the place for a quiet read or a cosy evening. It overlooks the lake and the walled garden. There is a large plasma television located discreetly behind false panelling.
At one end of the library is a small study equipped with a PC and board games. The drawing room is spacious and furnished in Art Deco style with plenty of comfortable seating. There are French windows opening on to the gardens and the courtyard.
The dining room, which can seat 16, is decorated in rich, glowing colours that are reflected in the panelling reputed to come from ships of the Spanish Armada. There is a bar room with wine fridge and an area that was the chapel in the time of Charles I. The kitchen of walnut and stainless steel is well-equipped and has a large glass dining area which overlooks the courtyard with its pond and fountains.
BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
Each bedroom has its own distinctive style and is comfortably furnished with either a 6ft double bed or twin beds, of which two can be combined with zip-and-link mattresses, plenty of wardrobe space and a seating area for relaxing.
The King John bedroom, the master bedroom, is sumptuously and traditionally decorated with a 6ft antique French bed. It has original Tudor windows looking out over a walled garden.
Leading off the bedroom is a large dressing room, which could be used as an adjoining room for children, and it has its own distinctive en-suite 1970's Harrods bathroom with mirrored walls, twin basins and large bath.
The Queen Mary bedroom is light and airy and has dual aspect views over the lake and garden. It has a restful muted colour scheme of light blue and cream with distressed cream furniture and a 6ft double bed.
The Alice Keppel bedroom, decorated in neutral shades with pine furniture, has twin beds recently used in the Beatrix Potter film.
This bedroom and the Queen Mary room share a marble and chrome Art Deco bathroom with bath and separate shower.
The John Evelyn bedroom is ground floor with windows looking onto the moat and gardens and French windows opening out on to the courtyard. It is elegantly decorated in cream with cane and light walnut Art Deco furniture. The beds can be twin or combined.
The Oriental bedroom is a smaller but charming room with twin beds and antique painted furniture. There is a window looking on to the moat and a Chinese Moon window opening on to a small oriental garden.
The bedrooms on the ground floor share a modern oak bathroom with bath, jet shower and sound system.
