Westholme is a charming 19th century stone built 2 storey cottage nestling in a quiet lane in the centre of the highly desirable Perthshire village of St Fillans with fantastic views of the highland mountains from every room. It has all the modern facilities you could want whilst retaining a huge amount of country character. The house is within 5 minutes walk of the shores of Loch Earn in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The village has three good traditional Scottish hotels where you can enjoy an excellent meal or just a drink and a village shop for your last-minute needs. There is a wide range of activities on the doorstep including sailing, water sports and fishing on the loch and rivers, walking and climbing in the surrounding woods, hills and mountains, cycling on the quiet lanes and cycle paths, an excellent and delightfully picturesque golf course and skiing not far away on the slopes of Glenshee and Glencoe. Apparently, there are 32 golf courses within a 2 hour drive of St Fillans.
You could easily spend a week without using your car but if you fancy travelling further afield, it is also an ideal base from which to tour the Highlands and Islands.

There are private and secluded gardens front and back with an abundance of birdlife (including the occasional eagle and regular red kites and buzzards flying overhead), and other wildlife (deer can frequently be seen and heard from the windows). It is a perfect house in which to relax and marvel at the ever changing views when you fancy a day off from all the activities. The house has a private garage and parking for several other cars, so there are no parking problems. It is set back away from the road, providing peace and tranquillity.

The house itself comprises a large, bright living room with real open fire (an initial basket of wood is provided free of charge); separate large dining room; fully equipped, modern kitchen with dishwasher; conservatory and downstairs toilet. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms; one twin and one with a zip-and-link super-king size bed which can be divided into twins if desired. The family bathroom with bath and shower over is modern and warm. The house is warmed using oil central heating (included in the price). Bedlinen and towels are provided free of charge.

St Fillans is widely regarded as one of the loveliest highland villages and is steeped in Scottish history of the clan battles. It also has strong literary associations with Sir Walter Scott. The hills and mountains rise steeply from the loch, making for dramatic scenery. Many of the surrounding woodlands are broadleaf ensuring that the autumn colours are spectacular. Red squirrels and deer can often be seen in the woodlands.

The village of Comrie just 5 miles away has a good range of speciality shops including a butcher, baker and delicatessen, whilst Crieff and Callander, both about 12 miles away,
have supermarkets and all the other facilities associated with larger towns. The cities of Perth and Stirling can be reached within an hours drive and the larger centres of Edinburgh and Glasgow are around 1.5 hours drive.

There is a regular bus service to Perth via Comrie and Crieff which can be used to provide wonderful one-way walks. There is also a daily bus service (May-October only) to Dundee, Oban and Fort William.

Without using your car you could have a fantastic week of hiking, cycling, fishing, nature and golf. The cottage is surrounded by mountains providing excellent hiking facilities and is two minutes away from a large loch (lake) for fishing and watersports. There is a golf course in St Fillans and a further 50 courses within a 2 hour scenic drive. Within a 2 hour drive, you have access to the whole of Scotland including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and all the Islands.
