Vacation Rental Description
Ladywell is at the head of the Glen of Rait, an unspoilt but yet accessible part of Perthshire. Ladywell once was an early monastic site, latterly a possession of Dunkeld Abbey and later still owned by branches of both the Royal Bruces and the Stewarts. Today you can still see the healing well - the waters of which feed the Lodge cottage - and a number of early Christian carved stones (plus a ruin in the woods behind the Lodge). The hills around Ladywell offer fantastic walking - you can walk for about 20 miles across the moor at the top of the hills behind the Lodge before you come to anything other than a deserted village or empty lochans. At the end of the day you can use the private picnic table situated at the top of Ladywell Hill as a venue for a sundowner - the views from there are fabulous including Schehallion, Dunsinane and on a clear day 5 counties!

Tourist attractions in the area include Scone Palace, Glamis Castle and Dundee with its Contemporary Arts Centre and St Andrews with its iconic town and gown environs, all are about a 20/35 minute drive away. Edinburgh is under an hour and makes a great day out especially during the International Festival in August. In the winter the ski slopes of Glenshee in Perthshire are easily commutable. Golfing is of courses a national sport in Scotland and the area offers a range of courses including Rosemount at Blairgowrie and the Royal and Ancient at St Andrews. Field sports are also one of the key specialities of the area - although it is always best to enquire about these well in advance.

Further attractions - In the grounds of Ladywell Lodge is a newly built timber garage with a full size ping pong table. From the Lodge you have access to Ladywell Hill and also the opportunity to feed carrots to the ponies!

Accommodation:
It was built in the 1930s to house the then Laird's sister. It has polished old pine floorboards and rugs throughout, modern electric central heating and is extremely well insulated.

It comprises from the front door an entrance hall with first right, the sitting room which has an original period fireplace and unspoilt west facing views of rolling hills. The sitting room also has 2 sofas and an arm chair at one end and an antique oak gate leg table that can fold out to seat 8 at the other end. There is a connecting door to the kitchen which has a south facing window from which you can catch a glimpse of the distant river Tay. The kitchen is well equipped with a modern electric cooker, washing machine, microwave oven, fridge freezer and a large walk in larder storing the additional 'Z' bed and a pantry/boxroom. A door leads from the kitchen to the back porch which is useful for storing wellies, logs, etc and has a back door to the ping pong garage and garden.

From the front hall there is access to the front bedroom which again has an open fire place, a double bed and a fine quality Edwardian dressing table and wardrobe - there are also 2 bedside tables and an armchair. The rear bedroom is laid out as a studio bedroom with a double bed, Victorian mahogany chest of drawers and mirror, a large bookcase, open fireplace and studio sofa which makes instantly into a really comfortable double bed. This room therefore can operate flexibly as a double bedroom or twin double bedroom plus additional living area for eg TV watching, games etc - there is a TV and DVD player in this room. The bathroom has a heated towel rail, loo, handbasin and the original free standing tub with a later fitted shower.

Outside and adjacent to the back porch is a newly built timber garage with electricity and a solid floor which houses a full size ping pong table. There is parking for 2/3 cars on a gravel driveway and a well maintained garden to relax in with a sunny side lawn - great for sunbathing etc. An outdoor badminton net is available if required.
