Aros Mains apartment is an upper floor conversion in a historic Georgian house built within the footings of 13th centuary Aros Castle on the hebridean island of Mull. Both it, and the two cottages next door, lie within an area of outstanding scenic beauty. Mull is the home of Scotland's largest bird of prey, the Sea Eagle but the island is also home to Golden Eagles, Buzzards,Puffins,Otters, Red Deer, Whale, Dolphin and many other variety of creatures too numerous to mention. The houses are located in an area of the island which makes touring very accessible. 
 
Aros Mains Apartment and Castle Steadings Cottages are located at the end of a quiet road situated two miles North of the village of Salen. Our location is one of our strengths. We are placed very centrally on the island and we offer an excellent self catering base for sightseeing, touring, hill walking, bird watching and wildlife.  
 
Our local surroundings are fantastic, a varied experience can be had just out of the door. We overlook the 13th century Aros Castle only properties once occupied by the Lords of the Isles, being only 100 metres from Aros Mains Apartment or Castle Steadings Cottages you will be free to explore the ruins at your leisure. Just a short 200 metre walk will take you down to the sea where you will find a nice beach, interesting shoreline and the Aros river estuary where lots of wildlife can be found. Built in the 18th century the Georgian Aros Mains House and Castle Steadings were built by James Maxwell, the Chamberlain to the Duke of Argyll. The cottages were not always here for holidays and before they housed weary travellers they were home to the cows, sheep and pigs of the Aros Mains byre and dairy.

This scenic area, rich in wildlife, provides great opportunities for spotting Otters, Deer, Seals, Whales, Dolphins, Golden Eagles and of course the White Tailed Sea Eagle as well as countless other species of sea birds. 
If the big city lights are what you're after you can find a very well stocked local shop just 2 miles down the road in our local village of Salen, there is also a great little Italian Restaurant called Mediteranea. Tobermory the capital of Mull is only 10-15 minutes drive north where you will find lots to do and see.
