Owner of Riverside House holiday cottage in Peak District, Derbyshire, UK
I have owned Riverside House for nearly four years and love sharing it with my guests. As a family we stay in the house at least four times a year, so we get to check that everything is OK and make sure that anything that needs it is replaced, repaired or redecorated. We like to keep the house to a high standard and it is painted internally and externally on a rolling basis each year. The floor tiles downstairs are restained once a year, the windows cleaned once a month, cushion covers etc are spring cleaned as are the duvets etc.
We welcome families and pets at Riverside House. We have a family and dog of our own so know the things that make the holiday work. We have stair gates, fire guard, high chair, cot, dog bowls all available. The downstairs area is tiled and in the lounge there is a wooden floor, and we find this is practical and durable for families and pets.
The games room is always popular and we have table tennis downstairs in the garage and in the games room above there is pool, air hockey, table football, PS2, TV and music centre. A great way to relax for families, groups and friends and we also supply lots of board games, books, maps and information. There's nothing better we think then relaxing in front of the log burning stove with a glass of wine and the company of good friends. We even include the logs for free!
The location of the house is very special in an area of outstanding scenery and with some great walks for all ages. We particularly like the walk along the river in the spring and summer to Cressbrook and the walk on the Monsal Trail to the fabulous Monsal Head restaurant and pub.
Our favourite pub is The Red Lion at Litton (a 40 min walk from the house or a 5 minute drive). Buxton has some lovely restaurants too - Taj Mahal Indian amongst others is good. Bakewell has lots of cafes with the famous Bakewell Tart and is well worth a morning or afternoon spent wandering round.
