This cosy 18th century grade 2 listed cottage provides a home from home and occupies an idyllic setting leading out into National Park country – a myriad of footpaths and bridleways with sheltered valleys, hidden waterfalls and dramatic hills, rich in wildlife and recent archaeological finds.
Our guests say this position is most idyllic and so central for exploring The Peak District National Park with its wealth of castles, caverns, historic houses, and outdoor activities. The market towns of Bakewell and Buxton, and Chatsworth House are just short drive and just beyond is an abundance of peak district attractions including Alton Towers. A warm welcome is assured at ‘The Cressbrook’ pub just across the road and there are an interesting choice of inns, and country restaurants in the surrounding area.
The cottage is a good choice for families and for walkers, cyclists and climbers with the Monsal Trail and excellent climbing at Ravens Tor and Water Cum Jolly close by. It’s also perfect for that special romantic break.
Badger cottage has a log burner and full central heating, sunny gardens and patio furniture, It sleeps 6 guests. Set in the heart of Cressbrook it has breathtaking country views of Monsal Dale, and lies in a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Conservation. All the rooms have amazing rural views, and are not overlooked. Wildlife and wildflowers abound and many guests do spot a Badger!
The cottage is tastefully furnished with good quality furniture and antiques is very well equipped. The pretty sitting room with mullioned latticed window overlooks the garden and has a Derbyshire stone fireplace and log burner, TV, DVD/CD player and games and books to help you feel at home
The dining kitchen has a table and chairs and is well equipped for your stay with washer/dryer, hob and oven, dishwasher ,microwave, ironing facilities and a fridge with ice box.
The bathroom downstairs has bath with shower above, lighted mirror with shaver point, hand basin and WC.
Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, 2 are double and one has sturdy full size bunk beds. The master bedroom has a double bed with pretty drapes and small TV, ideal to relax in after a busy day. There is also a shower room with WC, hand basin and shaver point
Little ones are well catered for with a high chair and travel cot, plus a range of soft toys, childrens books and DVD’s.
The front terraced garden gets the sun all day and has breathtaking views along Monsal Dale, it’s an ideal spot to sip a glass of wine whilst watching the birds of prey swoop along the dale, The stepped path may not be suitable for the elderly or those with walking difficulties.
The paved rear patio is walled and gated and is secure for dogs. It has patio table and chairs and BBQ . Cycles may be stored here but they will not be under cover.
Dogs are most welcome and will enjoy the fabulous range of walks from the door!
There is on road parking for cars outside the cottage or a free village car park about 50 yards away.
