Main Description

Bankend Cottage is a beautiful 17th century farm house which provides very high quality accommodation for up to 4 people. It incorporates a hand carved stone spiral staircase circa 1640. The cottage is next door to the owner’s house which was built later and has a date stone 1687.Former cottage residents include the well known mountaineer Sir Chris Bonnington.

Bankend is set in an idyllic peaceful location, with superb surrounding countryside and views of the high fells surrounding Ennerdale Lake. The cottage is on a quiet no through road but is easy to reach, being only 15 minutes drive from the A66 near Cockermouth.

The farm is no longer a working farm, but has an organic vegetable and fruit garden. A variety of produce is available to our guests when in season. In an effort to provide green energy a geothermal heat pump and wind turbine supplement the power requirement of the cottage and adjoining farmhouse. There is under floor heating throughout and the wood burning fire adds to the comfort.

The cottage has been recently renovated, maintaining its original and charming character, whilst offering comfortable, spacious, modern accommodation which includes:

• 1 double bedroom
• 1 twin room
• bathroom with separate shower and bath
• kitchen – fully equipped (oven with hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine)
• Spacious lounge/dining room with sandstone fireplace, wood burning stove, digital TV, DVD and CD player.
• Sunny Conservatory for relaxing and watching the variety of birds visiting the feeders at close quarters.
• Garden with lawn, outside furniture and BBQ.
• Private off road parking and lockable bike shed.

Sorry the cottage is unsuitable for very young children due to the nature of the stairs.

Smoking is not permitted.

Towels and linen are provided and electricity and a supply of firewood are also included.
