Vacation Rental Description
Birch Cottage was originally built in the early 1800s in the traditional Lakeland style of solid cobble stone with 0.6 metre thick walls under a slate pitch roof with slate sills and timber lintels. It was 8th in a row of ten bobbin makers’ homes. The area where they are built and which is now called Edinboro was then called Broadmire Head.
In the heart of the beautiful Lake District National Park this delightful quaint traditional 18th century stone terraced cottage is situated in the little hamlet of Edinboro, off the Kirkstone Road on the edge of Ambleside.
The peaceful hillside setting above Stock Ghyll Force (you can hear the famous waterfall from the cottage garden!) faces due south and has a glorious view to Wansfell Pike and to Loughrigg. An ideal base for touring, walking or climbing. You can choose to just relax or enjoy spectacular hikes right from the door – take an easy walk by the lakes to Rydal or Grasmere or go over Wansfell to Troutbeck, climb Red Screes, Loughrigg or the Fairfield Horseshoe.
