Vacation Rental Description
This beautiful holiday cottage nestles on the banks of the River Coquet in the historical, stunningly picturesque hamlet of Warkworth. A traditional stone built cottage dating from circa 1800, it was recently refurbished to an exceptional standard to provide superb self catering holiday accommodation with two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom.Standing at the head of the village street, the ruins of medieval Warkworth Castle create a dramatic view above the village.

Warkworth is almost completely surrounded by the River Coquet. Boating hire is available during the summer. You can visit the Hermitage further upstream, believed to have been built by a hermit in the 14th century, or travel downstream to study the magnificent flora and fauna, seals and otters, or engage in a spot of fishing.

If you are looking for a self catering Northumberland cottage in the beautiful countryside of Warkworth, you may opt for the luxury self catering Northumberland cottages of Tidal Homes. We believe in offering the best in quality and customer service. At our holiday cottages at Warkworth, you would be able to relish your holidays with friends and family.

Warkworth has a variety of shops selling everything from antiques to crafts. If shopping isn't your thing, the village has an excellent sandy beach nearby, and plenty of river walks along the River Coquet. Warkworth Castle is open to the public. For a relaxing evening, we suggest you to head to the village and visit the numerous local restaurants and pubs.

Further south along the River Coquet sits Amble. The village has fishing and a marina with launch facilities.

Our aim at Tidal Homes has always been the same, which is to make our visitors feel more at home on their self catering Northumberland cottage holiday.

Alnwick is also nearby Warkworth and plays host to the 'Alnwick Fair' and 'International Music Festival'. Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle have been the setting for many films including 'Elizabeth' and 'Harry Potter'. Both are open daily.

Twinned with Warkworth, New Zealand, the earliest records of Warkworth in Northumbria date back to the eighth century. The well known Warkworth Castle was not, however, built until the twelfth century. The first castle structure was most likely a wooden construction built by Henry, the son of King David I of Scotland. Henry owned the land then and had the title 'Earl Henry of Northumberland' at a time when the north of England was part of Scotland. In 1158, Henry II gave the Castle to Roger FitzRichard, who began to rebuild it with stone, and his son Robert continued to improve and add to the buildings.

It is believed that King Edward I spent a night in the castle in 1292, and in 1296 the Anglo-Scottish wars began and the castle was manned by troops. In 1319, a garrison of twenty-four soldiers and staff took care of the castle with half the cost being paid by the King, who later became owner of the castle. In 1332, Edward III granted Warkworth and its castle to Henry de Percy II, and for four hundred years the castle was passed back and forth between the Percy family and the royal family.

At our holiday cottages in Warkworth, you would be able to better enjoy the glorious ancient history of this magnificent city. Our self catering Northumberland cottages are well-equipped with all modern amenities to meet the demands of all our valued customers. Elaine Bennie. Boness Fantastic cottage, when can we move in! Great location, lots to see and do. Gorgeous beaches and countryside. HOPE TO BE BACK. The cottage was so lovely and well equipped you have certainly thought of everything, I could have easily have moved in. Warkworth was an ideal location as it has numerous pubs in easy walking distance, a beautiful river setting and a beach not too far away. The scenery in Northumberland was great as was the weather and we spent many days exploring the nearby beaches and towns. I hope it will not be too long before we can pay another visit even for a long weekend. Thanks again."
