Amble is a bustling seaport situated at the mouth of the River Coquet – the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful county of Northumberland. Amble was historically a centre for boatbuilding, and now offers its visitors a harbor, a new marina, sandy beaches and stunning coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. The harbor wall is full of moored fishing boats which fish the surrounding waters for prawns, crabs and lobsters; you can sample the daily catch at a fish shop in the harbour. Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a sizeable population of terns, eider ducks and puffins can be found a mile south of Amble, and delightful boat trips around the island are available. Alnmouth and Craster are pretty coastal villages well worth a visit, and are only a short drive away. Also within easy reach are Warkworth and Alnwick and their castles, the National Trust's Wallington Hall and Cragside.
