Ideal for exploring Northumberland, the bustling little seaport of Amble is at the mouth of the River Coquet. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, the town still has an active maritime element. With a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters available for sale in the local shop, fresh from the fishing boats that moor along the harbour wall, this lovely town is a sea-food fan’s paradise. Able also offers a new marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley, as well as to Coquet Island which is only a mile away. Boat trips can be arranged to this RSPB reserve so that visitors can see the large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks. There are a wide range of excellent shops in neighbouring towns, as well as multiple sandy beaches – this really is a holiday location that anyone can enjoy.
