Alnwick is a town dominated by the famous Alnwick Castle, the seat of the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens opened in 2002 and are home to Europe's biggest cascading water feature, a huge treehouse, a charming rose garden and a walled ornamental garden. The castle is probably most famous these days as being the setting for Hogwarts School of the Harry Poter films fame. This attractive market town’s narrow streets have changed little, and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is the central feature of the town and the location of the weekly market, held every Saturday. There is a good choice of shops, pubs and eateries in Alnwick, as well as the stunning Northumberland Heritage Coastline, sandy beaches, many more castles, and thrilling boat trips to the birdlife haven of the Farne Islands.
