Vacation Rental Description
This spacious apartment occupies the top two floors of a Georgian house in Bloomsbury. Although the house was built in the 1790s, it has been newly refurbished and now boasts all the luxuries of a modern home, while retaining some original features including Georgian wooden shutters at the windows and large rooms. Close to tube stations and buses and walking distance from many of London's finest attractions, this is an ideal vacation home for a family looking to explore London from a central base.
The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster, washing machine with integrated drier and lots of pots, dishes and cooking equipment. Children's cutlery, cups and dishes are in the cupboard too. There is a dining table with six chairs. The kitchen adjoins the large living room which has two sofas, satellite TV and dvd player. Some dvds, books about London (plus guide to local area, shops and restaurants written by owners), toys and chairs for young children, puzzles and games are in the bookcase. MP3 players can be plugged into our set of speakers. Going up the narrow staircase to what would have been the servant's quarters is the master bedroom with king-size double bed, one single bed, wardrobe, Victorian furniture, feature mirror, hairdryer and bedside tables with reading lamps. The second bedroom has two single beds, Victorian chest of drawers, clothes rail and radio. Both rooms have blackout roller blinds so that you aren't woken by the early morning sun. The smart bathroom has black & white tiles on the floor, bath, separate power-shower, wc and basin.
A cot and highchair are available on request. Plus some other baby equipment - please ask for what you need. A mobile (cell) phone is available for your use. You just pay for the calls. Internet access is WiFi. Please bring your laptop to access internet and look in the black information folder for the passwords.
Towels and linen included. Cleaners generally come once a week but can come more often by arrangement at £10 an hour. Iron and ironing board available. Owners are on hand to help with any issues or answer questions but are happy to leave you in peace to enjoy your vacation in this fascinating city.
John St is in the historic area of Bloomsbury in Central London. You're in the heart of London but away from the crowds. The British Museum is a 10 min walk and the Charles Dickens Museum, housed in the building where he wrote Oliver Twist, is 1 minute away. London's West End with its fabulous shopping (Oxford St, Regent St), theatres, art galleries and landmarks (Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Big Ben) is close by. Covent Garden with its street theatre, opera house and shopping Piazza is an easy walk. Heading East, you can stroll around the City of London, Europe's financial centre with its famous buildings (St Paul's Cathedral, the Gherkin, Tower of London, Wren churches). Heading South over the pedestrian only Millennium Bridge, you will find Tate Modern gallery, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and it is a pleasant walk along the Southbank to the London Eye, towards Westminster and a view of the Houses of Parliament from the south. Take a tube (subway) to the West for Buckingham Palace, St James' Park, several museums in Kensington and Hyde Park which is home to Princess Diana's memorial fountain & children's play park.

There is no outside space with this property, but for children, the excellent Coram's Fields is moments away. This park only admits adults if they are accompanied by a child. It has swings, slides and climbing frames for all ages, a sand-pit, farm animals and astro-turf football pitches, all free for kids. For adults, London is full of parks and gardens, but Russell Square with its fountain, newly restored gardens and cafe is a good place for a rest from London's fast-paced lifestyle.
The nearest airport is London Heathrow and it is a single tube train journey to Russell Square, which is a 7 minute walk to the apartment. Other airports, London Gatwick, London City, London Stansted and Luton are about an hour away by train. We will give you full directions when you book. The mainline train stations Kings Cross, St Pancras and Euston are walking distance. Waterloo, Paddington and Victoria are a tube or bus ride away. Car not advisable.

You can come to London at any time of the year. There is no quiet period or off-season. You can visit world class tourist attractions such as the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, London Eye and the British Museum which is very close to this apartment. Or you can go shopping in Oxford Street, Regent Street, Covent Garden, trendy Camden Market or the Portobello Road antiques market in Notting Hill. There is so much to see and experience in the metropolis that we provide a copy of the weekly listings magazine Time Out for all of our visitors. Art galleries, theatres, clubs, rock and pop concerts, classical music performances, jazz clubs, comedy clubs, cinema, sporting events - there is an ever changing variety of things to do. The apartment has guide books and restaurant guides to help you get the most out of your stay in plus some novels that are set in London.
