Vacation Rental Description
Sansome House Cottage is hidden away in the courtyard of a big old farmhouse c.1760 which is occupied by the owners. Although they are nearly always on hand should you need them for help or advice, the cottage is completely private and has its own little garden. It is very peaceful and, unless the children in the playground of the school up the road are out to play, the loudest noise tends belong to the birds, particularly our rather raucous semi-tame pheasant. We regret no animals and no smoking in the cottage.
Ilmington is the only village in Warwickshire which lies in the Cotswolds. Stratord upon Avon is 15 minutes drive from the cottage. Chipping Campden (Gloucestershire) is just 10 minutes away over the hill, and 4 miles in the other direction is the historic and 'authentic' town of Shipston on Stour, which apart from the supermarket, has avoided falling victim to high street chains. The village, although one of the most attractive in the Cotswolds has escaped being on the tourist trail with tour buses etc. It is popular with walkers as there some wonderful walks (you can start right across the road in our fields)over the beautiful Ilmington Downs. We provide comprehensive plans for walks in the area as well as cycle routes (you can hire nearby) and suggestions for tours by car through the villages of the North Cotswolds. There are many beautiful gardens to visit, including nearby Hidcote (3 miles). A comprehensive folder of leaflets about places to see and things to do is kept up to date in the cottage.
The cottage is not furnished in ultra modern style, nor is it flowery and chintzy. It is a happy blend of old and new to give an overall fresh country house look. There are Persian rugs on wooden floors downstairs and carpeting upstairs. The staircase is steep. Children over five are welcome but it is unsuitable for the under-fives.
The cottage sleeps four in comfort as it has very good sized rooms. It is also very well equipped so that you will get the feeling that you are at home with everything (we hope) that you need around you. There are two bedrooms, the main one having a king-sized bed, the second having with twin beds. All the beds are comfortable with cosy duvets and electric underblankets for chilly nights. There is a bathroom upstairs and a cloakroom with WHB, loo and shower downstairs.
The kitchen is large with a big farmhouse table;French windows lead to a small patio and garden. A garage houses a table tennis table. There is a portable BBQ and garden chairs and table for the warm days. We are happy to do a shop for you if you are travelling a long distance and arriving late but provide starter supplies anyway of tea, coffee, sugar, salt, oil, etc. A tray of tea things is left out for your arrival.
In bad weather you can cosy up on the sofas in front of the fire reading, playing board games (a good selection for adults and children) or watching a DVD on the TV. There is also a CD player. Wifi Broadband is free (you need a wifi card in your laptop). Apart from logs, (after the first small complimentary basket), there are no extras for utilities or linen. If you are staying for a week, fresh towels are provided half way through your stay and are of generous proportions.
The cottage is centrally heated and cosy but this is an old cottage and windows etc. are not insulated like in a modern apartment but for those who are used to warmer climes there are also electric fires and an open log fire (you can buy logs for this locally and this is the only 'extra'). SMOKERS excluded sorry.
The village shop and two pubs (with dining) are a short walk from the cottage. There is a playground with skateboard ramp and two all weather tennis courts in the village. Also a cricket pitch. Village events include a cinema showing in the Village Hall once a month, regular concerts, and the annual Fete in August.

Owner Location Comment
The village of Ilmington in which this cottage lies is in the North Cotswolds designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are wonderful walks all around and above the village with outstanding views as the hill above the village on the Ilmington Downs is highest point in Warwickshire. There are marked cycling trails in the area, 5 of them passing through Ilmington. This is a 'living' village with working farms, two pubs, a village shop and a playground and playing fields, even a film show once a month in the village hall.
The village stands on the border of Gloucestershire with Oxfordshire and Worcestershire both a few miles away so you have an amazing choice of interesting places to visit. Stratford on Avon, birthplace of Shakespeare, 7 miles north, Chipping Campden, one of the gems of the Cotswolds, 4 miles west and places like Broadway, Moreton in Marsh, The Slaughters, Bourton on the Water and Burford within easy driving distance. A little further (all about 40/45 mins away) Worcester, Oxford and Cheltenham.
