Steeped in history this dramatic region provides something for all tastes. Kalkan enjoys some of the best weather in Turkey with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Historical areas are abundant in the region that also feautures the ancient ruins of Patara with its 18km long sandy beach. Guide books listing all the highlights of the region are provided. The Lycian Way walking trail crosses through the area. A guide book for the walk is also provided. Kalkan is seen as a more upmarket option than other Turkish resort towns. It still retains its charm, and due to the steep topography of the area, has not suffered mass expansion. The many restaurants in town offer wonderful cuisine that can be followed by a walk through the cobbled streets for some shopping.
