Kalkan is on the Lycian coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is a beautiful little Mediterranean harbour village, full of character, charm and hospitality. Bougainvillea covered, wooden balconied villas line the cobbled streets leading down to the harbour. There are many excellent and reasonably priced rooftop restaurants and pavement cafes abound. Fascinating shops selling wonderful Turkish rugs, silver, jewellery and other interesting items are perfect for browsing – and buying !! The local shopkeepers are always helpful but there is never any hassle - you are more likely to be offered a glass of Turkish tea and a chat!! There is always time for both in Kalkan. For the more energetic there are some wonderful boat and swimming trips and visits to ancient historical sites, which can be organised from within the village, and are well worth doing. Historical sites and trail walks in the mountains are easily accessible. There are numerous outdoor sports available in the area, including canoeing, snorkelling, sailing, para-gliding and scuba diving. Family horse riding treks can be arranged in the mountains with the opportunity to meet local Turkish families.
