Vacation Rental Description
Casa Nido is located in one of the most stunning positions in Spain’s Costa Blanca just a few steps from the old village of Guadalest, a fortress built by the moors over 1,200 years ago. Casa Nido is a beautifully furnished and comfortable apartment with 2 double bedrooms, a lounge dining room with open plan kitchen, a bathroom and separate WC with washbasin.
This is an ideal venue for two couples, a small family or as a little rural romantic haven for a couple. This apartment is available for both short and long term rental or you may wish to combine a stay here with a stay at one of our other properties down the mountain and nearer the Costa Blanca coast and beaches.
Travelling to Guadalest by the twisting road that climbs ever upwards, passing through the village of Polop, is almost as spectacular as the position of the village itself and the breathtaking views make the drive well worthwhile. On reaching Guadalest you can see why the Moors, who constructed castles to defend the area, considered this place a site of strategic importance. However the building you will see on most of the postcards is the whitewashed bell tower of Penon de la Alcala which seems to cling to the mountain face.
Casa Nido offers an opportunity to explore the “real Spain” which is steeped in history, the village of Guadalest itself can only be accessed through a tunnel carved through 15 meters of solid rock, it is for this reason that the village was never conquered. The fortress even withstood an earthquake in 1644 as well as attempts by the Austrian Archduke Charles to blast his way in during the war of the Spanish Succession. When you arrive into the village itself through the tunnel and see the ancient houses you will feel as though you have been transported to another age. Guadalest is a fascinating village with many shops and museums and a good selection restaurants as well as a municipal swimming pool that is open from the end of June to the beginning of September. It is possible to spend hours just meandering around the little streets, stopping for a coffee or a snack taking in the history, people watching or maybe walking in the beautiful mountainous countryside. The village also offers the most spectacular views and is well known for hand made lace handkerchiefs which can be found on sale in the town and can be purchased directly form the local women who produce them. Other locally produced craftwork items to be found in the town are embroidered ponchos, headdresses (tocas) and shawls (chales) typical of the region.
If you want to further explore the area near to Casa Nido it is just 15km or 15 minutes drive to the Fontes de Algar waterfalls at Bolulla, that you will see featured on some postcards of the area, and approximately 25km, or 30 minutes drive, to the coastal towns of Villajoyosa, Benidorm, Altea and Calpe. In the other direction at around 25km, or a 30 minute drive, will take you to the Aitana Safari Park.
