Vacation Rental Description
If you are looking for wildlife, tranquility, history, sport and comfort you will love it:
Perintin cottage is an old lovingly restored orchard house located in the one of the most beautiful and tranquil corners of the Ricote Valley. Its structure and original layout were conserved in their entirety, and it was equipped with all the conveniences of modern living. The cottage has room for 2-6 people. There is La Abuela bedroom, a large study, a neat little bathroom, a cosy living room with its wood-burning stove, a kitchen and the courtyard. The kitchen is totally equipped with fridge-freezer, gas cooker, electric oven, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, water heater, microwave, juicer, mincer, coffee pot, etc. along with all the cutlery and pots and pans required to enjoy cooking with views of the orchard and the Segura River. Within the protected area of the Ricote Hills, it is just a few meters from the River Segura at the foot of the spectacular Rocky Cliffs of El Chinte, home to many species of birds. The cottage is light and tranquil and also it also has a television, table games, radio, CDs and MP3, .... It is a short walk into the village of Ojós, 10 minutes from the Spa in Archena, 20 minutes from the City of Murcia, 70 minutes from El Altet airport (Alicante), 100 minutes from the beaches of the Mediterranean, three hours from the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park and three and a half hours from Madrid.
The Ricote Valley is a very special place because of the varied nature of its landscapes and countryside within a relatively small area, and because of its historical, cultural, and ecological value. The area is attracting more and more interest and is the subject of numerous studies and specialist publications. Within a 20 kilometer radius, a wide-range of sporting and countryside activities can be enjoyed such as cycling, trekking, bird watching, canoeing, rock climbing, rubber-tyre descents down the River Segura, horse riding, esparto-grass workshops, Mediterranean salt steppe visits, etc. The area is also renowned for its spas, rich gastronomy and places and structures of historical/cultural interest, such as the ancient waterwheels, irrigation ditches and manual water pumps. The traditional irrigation network with its Moorish origins is still in use today.
The Ricote Valley has a strikingly rich landscape, with pine forests on north-facing slopes combined with esparto grass and bare limestone on south, east and west facing slopes and the green either side of the River Segura, planted with orange, lemon and olive trees on land rising above the level of the river thanks to the complex and ancestral system of terraces. The scene is completed by the River Segura itself running along the bottom of the valley and the numerous irrigation channels, paths and drainage channels accompanied by the placid presence of date palms, all of which have led to the area being known locally as the Moorish valley or Murcia’s Palestine because of its resemblance to the Valley of Jerico.
Animal species worthy of mention nearby include the peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), the Bonelli’s eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus) and the Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo) -as an Area of Special Interest for Birds – and the little egret (Egretta garcetta) and purple heron (Ardea purpurea.
Weather: The Ricote Valley is in the south east of the Iberian Peninsula. It is a semiarid zone with less than 350mm of rain a year. The Ricote and La Navela hills, which reach heights of nearly 1000 meters, its north-south alignment and the River Segura have endowed this Moorish valley with its own microclimate, which tempers the high summer temperatures, and drives away winter frosts. Perintin cottage therefore enjoys pleasant average temperatures, a high number of sunny days and little rain.
