CASA DO PEPE provides a really comfortable home from home, and a relaxing base from which to explore the rest of Galicia. The house has been sympathetically restored to preserve the best of the original building while providing the comforts expected in a modern home. The village is tiny, with only the owner and one other neighbouring family living there.

LA CASITA. We have recently finished restoring a 1 bedroom cottage which is now available to rent either on its own or together with Casa do Pepe for a larger family. Whilst set in the beautiful countryside of the Ribeira Sacra region of south Lugo, it also boasts excellent communications with the outside world. The main roads give good connections to Ourense, Santiago de Compostella, Lugo, Vigo and the west coast as well as the north or south into Portugal. The main local town, Monforte de Lemos, is only 7km distance and has rail and bus connections. It also has a hospital, supermarkets, banks, cafes, restaurants and shops as well as museums and other cultural and sports activities. Also within a 5km drive are the council towns of Ferreira de Panton and Escairon which have good facilities too. In the summer all the local councils have openair swimming pools, and there are at least two river beaches a short drive away.

The houses are situated almost in the centre of Galicia making it really easy to explore this fantastic country. Whether you like walking, swimming, birdwatching or more active hobbies, there is always something to do or see.

The farmhouse has electric heating as well as a wood burning stove and cooking range for use during the winter. There is a gas Bar-B-Q in the barn and a stone bread oven. Garden furniture is also provided. Linen is changed on a weekly basis. The TV currently provides Spanish TV & radio programmes, some of which can be viewed in English, or their original language. There is an excellent PGA golf course about 4km from the house and a 9 hole one in Monforte de Lemos. If you wish to swim, there are pools in every council town (about 5 within a 10km radius) as well as 2 river beaches,one within 5km.

The house is situated on one of the Caminos de Santiago, the Winter Route from the south. It provides a lovely walk to the River Miño and further to Santiago.

If you have any specific activities you would like to do please ask and we will try to find them for you.

If you want to bike, you will have to bring your own bikes as there isn´t anywhere to hire them here. We now have a childs bike and a ladies bike.

La Ribeira Sacra area of central southern Galicia is one of the jewels in the crown of Spain. Hauntingly beautiful, it is an area of open spaces, small villages, mountains, rivers and vineyards. In some aspects it is almost a combination of the English Lake Districk and the Mosel area of Germany. It has 2 steeply terraced rivers, the Sil and the Mino which produce the major part of the excellent wine for the Ribeira Sacra denomination, and small stone walled fields. The countryside is very underpopulated and large nubers of the villages have only a few people living in them or are even deserted altogether. Castrotane is no exception. Outside the immediate Ribeira Sacra confines, the mountains of O Caurel (Courel) with their sweet chestnut forests, the area of Manzaneda for outdoor activities including skiing and the cities of Lugo and Ourense are all worth exploring. A visit to the spectacular coast is well worth and overnight trip as well, and a day out in North Portugal just adds to the variety of experiences to be had here.

Semana Santa and Easter will be charged at the Christmas New Year Rate We give discounts for Casa do Pepe for bookings placed 4 months in advance and for parties of 4 or less. If you wish to book a long let over the winter please call us to discuss rates and terms. Deposits:- There is a non-refundable deposit of 25% required to confirm a booking. The balance is payable 4 weeks before arrival and is non refundable. We strongly suggest that you take out travel insurance to cover all eventualities in the event that you need to cancel your booking. Breakages will be charged at cost of replacement.

David Faranoff & Family June 2010. Sometimes you find a gem! We have really enjoyed our stay. The house is beautifully laid out, historic and with all mod cons. Everything we needed for the four of us was here............... There´s been lots to see and do here. We were really impressed with the two gorges, historic churches, castles and woodland walks. Discover Galicia

In my opinion there is no better place to spend a holiday than here in central Galicia. For me it is like living in another time, as there is always time to stop for a coffee or a chat or for no particular reason. The pace of life is gentle and in alignment with the seasons of the year.

I moved here some five years ago to restore, what has turned out to be, nearly half a village! It took over three years to complete the restoration of Casa do Pepe and last year was our first year of welcoming guests. Our guests all enjoyed themselves, commenting on the peaceful nature of the place. One group used the house as a base from which to walk the Santiago Way and others explored the coastal regions and visited some of the cities. Others just chilled and stayed in the local area.

We have chickens here as well as a vegetable garden and guests have enjoyed the produce and the local wines!
