Casa de Flores, at no 54/73 Mer, Proendos 27460 Sober Galicia Spain you'll find old cottages partly build of stone and partly build of brick. These have been lovingly renovated. One is now a 2 bed room self catering, self contained, house with a secluded and shaded garden/ This offers - Comfort - Tranquility - Nature - Lots of each - . 
 
The cottage comfortably sleeps 2, 2 & 1 or 1 & 1 . It is on the first floor with cellars underneath. A typical galician kitchen and it's "cocina economica" , a large lounge with a wood burner, a bed room with a large double bed and a small second bed room with a single bed. A bath room with shower (hot) under floor warming and downstairs access to a shaded garden with ample seating. We have central heating, so if it turns cold - no worries. The fridge lives in the "old" smoking room which is upstairs beside the kitchen. The property has been renovated to high standards but the "old charm" has been painstakingly preserved.  
 
If you have read the blogs and articles you may glean that we love to live here and cherish the small hamlet of Mer. It is a very rural setting in a farming community, but surprisingly only 5 minutes from Sober with its restaurant, 2 bars, 2 shops, a surgery and much more. Further 10 minutes will take you to Monforte de Lemos (19.000 inhabitants) with its delightful "Escorial of Monforte", pedestrianised shopping area, cafes, bars and if you can stay up late discotheques and entertainment. 
 
The surrounding area - Ribeira Sacra (holy valley) - offers stunning scenery. It's a heaven for nature lovers. Scattered hamlets along the deep gorges of the river valleys Sil & Mino with some unbelivable steep vine rows, change to deeply wooded areas. Climbing the winding roads leads to heather and gorse dominated plateaus. In winter skying 1800m (5000 feet) in Manzaneda and the hot springs of Ourense are not to be missed. In summer swimming pools, man made sweet water beaches along the river and shaded walks or for the more active - mountain biking, trekking,golf, to name a few activities are nearby. 
 
Of course you can simply relax in the cottage, sit in the shaded garden or on our fields. Maybe, just maybe, you can undertake a stroll across fields and following ancient tracks.

    • A shaded garden with a small BBQ Fields Walks directly from the house or nearby. Hot springs (Termales) in Ourense. Local swimming pools (summer only). We have up to three bikes available and can rent a trekking canoe (Metzler inflatable)

    • Ourense (50Km) is a delightful town with ample shopping. Its secret are the river walks and public hot springs. 
    Lugo (60Km)boasts a medieval town wall, which can be walked, enclosing an old town. 
    Monforte is the nearby shopping center with pedestrianised streets. 
    Aquas Santas nearby offers a full health spa and excellent golfing.

      High Season Price: €350 per Week
         

    50% of the total amount required for confirmation. Rest upon or just before arrival. Cancellations up to 4 weeks prior to arrival. We will redeem any amount paid minus any banking fees. After that we charge 25% of the reservation fee per week. Bank transfer in Sterling or Euros preffered. Payment in Euros by PayPal(+2.5% The remainder is due just before arrival or in cash upon arrival / shortly thereafter. Sorry, but we do not accept payments by cheque.
