The Plaza Real is a handsome palm-shaded square with an unmistakable Mediterranean character. It's purity of line contrasts dramatically with the intricate maze of narrow alleyways that you find in the Gothic city. By the fountain, on the centre of the square, is one of Gaudi's earliest works: a lamp post with a dragon's head - already showing the allegoric monsters that were to parade all through his life work.
