The local Island Carnival is from 14th February and lasts for a week. Costa Antigua (Nuevo Horizonte) is just 10 mins by car, or altenatively a wonderful costal walk of about 45 mins from the sea salt museum of Las Salinas, and only a 45 min - 1 hrs drive from ther north of the Island, passing through a wealth of lovely little Canarian villages to the military museum at "La Oliva" where you can also visit the local artist gallery, or the hermitage at "Lajares", or the cave of the Conceta spiders at "Villa Verde".
If relaxation is more your thing then the cliff tops walk at Nuevo Horizonte are spectacular in thier austerity, and the many other nature walks both inland and shoreline are not to be missed. Many opportunities for the avid cyclist as the roads here are well kept and maps easily understood. The area itself has easy access to taxi, bus, restaurants, bars, hairdressers and supermarkets.
