Vacation Rental Description
Recently renovated comfortable ground floor apartment in casa antigua in the small white pueblo of Yegen, former home of hispanist Gerald Brenan, author of “South from Granada”. The apartment has an attractive private shady terrace and spacious rooms decorated in moorish alpujarran style. Situated in the Central Alpujarras, high in the Sierra Nevada mountains, the village tumbles downhill in a maze of narrow alleys with spectacular views in all directions. Village life is tranquil, characterized by the sounds of mules being led through the alleys to drink at one of the ancient drinking water fountains or the ringing of goat bells as the goatherd brings his flock through the village. If your visit coincides with a village fiesta, you will be sometimes be able to hear traditional flamenco music played in the squares on guitar and mandolin. However, for your convenience, the village also has a bakery, supermarket, hotel with restaurant and five tapas bars. It provides an ideal base for walking, horse trekking or mountain biking in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park yet is also within easy reach of the Mediterranean coast. Banks and all shopping facilities can be found in the nearby market town of Ugijar (20 mins by car). 
 
Bedroom has one double bed plus optional single bed. (Alternatively a folding bed is available for use in the living room). Kitchen has fridge, freezer, microwave, toaster, open fireplace, dining table and four chairs. Living room has log burning stove, sofa, antique chest, bookcase, CD player and selection of CDs, books, local maps, walking guides and games. Bathroom has bath with shower over, WC, bidet, handbasin. Beautiful shady terrace with plants, patio table and chairs. Entrance hall has supply of logs for stove and storage space (for bikes etc). 
The apartment is entered via a short flight of four steps, otherwise it is on one level. 
 
There is one parking space to the front of the house but, as the owner does not have private rights to this space, it is first come, first served! Otherwise there is parking a short distance away. Also cars may be parked outside the owners garage temporarily for loading and unloading.

    • The Mediterranean is approximately one and half hour's drive - for water sports etc. Beach resorts within reach are Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar and Almerimar. The nearest ski resort is at Sierra Nevada, about 2 hours drive from Yegen. Mountain bikes may be hired locally and horse riding is available about one hour's drive from the village. Please note however that not all these activities are available all the year round.

    Season Rate
    		  Low Season Price: €200 per Week
      High Season Price: €250 per Week
         

    Prices are for the property per week, regardless of number of occupants. Rental is 300 euros per week in summer (April - November) and 230 euros per week in winter (December - March) A deposit of 50% of the rental is due on reservation of the accommodation, the balance being due on arrival. Payment is preferred in euros or UK sterling - but other currencies are possible. Payment methods will be advised by owner at the time of booking. For cancellations made up to 4 weeks before commencement of stay, 80% of deposit will be refunded. For cancellations made less than 4 weeks before commencement of stay, 50% of deposit will be refunded Changeover day is flexible. Minimum length of stay is 3 nights. Arrivals preferred after 2.00pm and departures before 11.00am please.
