Casa Almendros apartment is set in the hills accessed by a 1km farm track. It has stunning views of Lake Viñuela and mount Maroma in the Sierra Tejeda mountains. It is located in a glorious rural setting with far reaching views over lake and mountains (lovely walks from your door), but only a short drive from all amenities and the beach.
The apartment offers spacious accommodation of a double en-suite bedroom, separate sitting room and dining kitchen all in a traditional rustic style. There is also a private terrace for guests use and a 9x4 m swimming pool (shared with owner), and sun terraces.
Although the owners live in the upper part of the house, they will respect your privacy and are always available for help and advice.
Casa Almendros is situated in the Axarquia region of Andalucia, near Lake Vinuela and the National Parks of Sierra de Almijara and Sierra Tiejeda, yet still only a short drive from the beaches of the Costa del Sol. It is an area of natural beauty, great for walking or just relaxing and has a climate of hot summers and mild winters. It is a good base to vist the cities of Seville ( 2hours 30mins drive), Cordoba ( 2 hours drive), Granada ( 2 hours drive), Gibralter (2 hours 30mins drive) and Malaga ( 45 mins drive).
The nearest beach is at Torre del Mar which is a typical Spanish resort with lots of amenities. During the summer evenings it holds a small market and has a really lively atmosphere.
The town of Nerja is only 30 mins drive away where you can visit the local caves , shop or just relax on the beach. The old Moorish town of Frigilliana is also close by with its old buildings and narrow streets.
Easter and Christmas are very important to the Spanish, the Easter parades that take place in Velez Malaga ( 15 mins drive) are well worth a visit.
Between Torre del Mar and Velez Malaga you will find a large shopping centre with Eroskl ( like Asda), Mango, Zaras, Dunnes and many more. There are also lots of places to eat, bowling alley, cinema ( they sometimes show film in English) and a water park just across the road ( open June - September). There are very good street markets, Torre del Mar, Velez Malaga and Nerja being the most popular ones.
There are two 18 hole golf courses within easy reach both a good test of golf with driving ranges and not too expensive
The small village of Los Romanes is a short drive from the apartment it has a local shop, Olive Oil Factory and a very good restaurant El Charco which is popular with locals and visitors. In May the village holds a Romeria ( horse festival) where they process from the village down to the Lake for music and dancing then camping overnight. In August the village holds a week long Fiesta with live bands, dancing, free wine, beer and paella for everyone.
The village of La Vinuela is slightly larger with a restaurant, a few bars, small supermarket, butchers, bank (with ATM),chemist, 24 hour health centre and Post Office.
There are two large restaurants 5 minutes drive away on the Lake side and also a Jamoneria (delicatessen selling local products).
At Punte Don Manuel ( 10 mins drive) you will find more retaurants including Indian, Pizzaria along with the local Spanish ones. There is also an English shop ( Arkwrights) selling various UK products including papers there is also a bakery and butchers.
