Situated among some of the finest mountain scenery to be found in Southern Spain, amidst cork oak and chestnut forests, the cottages of Molino Rio Alájar provide a comfortable retreat in a unique Spanish setting. The Parque Natural Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Criss-crossed with ancient paths, some dating from Roman times, the area is a green oasis even during the hot Andalusian summer. The Molino is an ideal point from which to explore this magnificent region.
The six stone cottages stand on raised ground on the right bank of the river, commanding views over the valley and surrounding hills.The dark golden and honey hues of the chestnut beams and windows, together with the reddish tones of the hand-made clay tiles, suffuse the rooms with an amber light. Great care has been taken over the furnishing of all the houses, making them pleasing to the eye and comfortable in the rustic style.
The two larger houses, La Cigüeña and El Conejo sleep 4 - 6 people and have under floor heating in all rooms. Each one has a large sitting-room with a fireplaceand comfortable seating. The kitchen area is to the side with a five-ring gas hob and electric oven, fridge and a good selection of stainless steel cookware, cutlery and earthenware. The bathroom is downstairs. There are two single beds in each of the two gallery rooms upstairs. To the side of the house and with a separate entrance, a bedroom with a double bed and en suite bathroom completes the accommodation. In El Conejo, this room is also accessible through a door from the living room. Both houses have a terrace for dining alfresco.
El Buho sleeps two and has a bed-sitting room with a wood-burning stove, and an en-suite bathroom. There is a kitchen and a small terrace on the side.
La Tortuga is now fully refurbished and expanded. The main door opens into a hallway with a window showing the enclosed patio. To the right is the spacious living room with fireplace, underfloor heating and kitchen area. A large bow-window looks out over the lawn to the hills beyond. The main bedroom has a double bed and a stylish bathroom in sea green. The second bedroom has two single beds and en-suite bathroom. As with all the houses, the terrace provides the opportunity for dining outdoors while enjoying the pristine Sierra air.
El Águila is suitable for a couple or a small family and consists of a living room with a kitchen area. The double bedroom has a spiral staircase leading to an entresol with two beds for children. The bathroom has a full size bath, In winter the house is warmed by a cosy fireplace and underfloor heating.
