Traditional white village house in tranquil Albuñuelas, in the beautiful Lecrín valley, only 30 minutes from the city of Granada and its airport. The coast and Sierra Nevada skiing are within an hour.  
CASA MORISCA: SLEEPS 6 and has tiled floors, shutters, exposed beams, an open patio, roof terrace and many original features. It has been architect restored with local materials in traditional colours. 
DOWNSTAIRS around an open patio with fountain and flowers – lounge with arab style banquettes around a log burning stove, excellent kitchen; dining room; open patio, barbecue; double bedroom, en-suite shower.  
UPSTAIRS – king size master bedroom; twin bedroom; bathroom; study.  
ROOF TERRACE with wonderful views views across the river gorge to Giralda, 1431m, in the Sierra de las Guájaras. 
ALBUÑUELAS: Tranquil, traditional, white farming village, still worked by mules, at 737m in the Lecrin valley, is an excellent centre for touring, walking and mountain biking. Verdant valley of oranges, lemons, almonds and olives, unaffected by tourism, in microclimate west of the Sierra Nevada. Bars, shops, restaurant, bank, pharmacy within 5 minutes walk. Bread and fish are delivered daily to our street. Ideal for those who want to get to know real Spain, who want to walk or explore Granada's heritage and have a quiet bolt hole at the end of the day. Those looking for bright lights and night-life will find them in Granada but not the village.  
Steep stairs and streets make it less suitable for people of limited mobility who should look at our house in Diezma ref 22020 which has all facilities on one floor and private parking at the door. Walking, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, skiing December to May.  
The world heritage city of Granada with the Alhambra, flamenco, fine shopping, restaurants, tapas, night life is just 30 minutes away.  
The coast with traditional resorts Salobreña and Almuñécar, favoured by the Spanish, is just an hour away.  
Short stays welcome, starting any day. Subsequent weeks available at £84 reduction from first week and odd days pro rata to this.

  • Within 250m walk there is a bar/cafe, car park and the bus stop for Granada. Within 1000m walk there is a pharmacy, bank, bakery, and choice of shops, bars and restaurants.

  • Just 30 minutes away is Granada, World Heritage Centre with the Alhambra, Generalife palace, gardens and Albaicín white town on the adjacent hill; it has a cathedral [1523] with the tomb of Ferdinand and Isabella, a university [1526], monasteries [1492 and La Cartuja 1516] and an important Plaza de Toros [1928]. Capital of the Arab Kingdom in Europe for 800 years until the reconquest by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492. An eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, tapas bars and hotels; with classical, flamenco, jazz and Arabic music available in many different venues. 
    Many footpaths, forest tracks and the E4 GR7 long-distance path lead straight from the door.  
    Sierra Nevada Parque National has limitless walking and skiing [2080-3380m - November to April], Las Alpujarras [Lanjarón spa town, Driving over Lemons], sea [Almuñécar and Salobreña] are all within an hour drive.

    The Lecrin Valley is become popular with tourists looking for real Spain. It retains its charm and is a different world from the coast, which is less than an hour away.

    • Travel Info: Once at the house all essential facilities are on hand in the village and visitors have enjoyed a holiday without a car. There is walking from the village in every direction. There are regular buses to Granada and there are then good bus and rail links throughout Spain. However there is such an abundance of places to visit in this part of Spain that Albunuelas makes a perfect touring centre. Málaga airport is about 90 minutes away and Madrid is a little under five hours by road or train.

    100 euros DISCOUNT on second week. Odd days at 1/7 of extra week rate. 20 euros DISCOUNT for couples. Christmas three weeks at May rate and Easter two weeks at June rate. Prices include linen, towels, logs, gas, electricity and laundry and cleaning at the end of the visit, assuming that the house is left tidy. 33% deposit is required to confirm the booking. Balance to be paid 60 days before holiday commences. Payment by bank transfer to our English account in sterling OR Spanish account in euros OR by credit card via the secure PayPal website for which there is a 3.5% handling charge The house will be available for you from 4pm on day of arrival and you should vacate by 10am on departure.

    We truly enjoyed our stay. Our only regret is not having planned more time there. We really felt on vacation and adored the mountain views. My husband did a bit of hiking and I could see him from the house! We enjoyed the roof top terrace and everyday I had my morning coffee with a book. We visited the Alhambra at night and it was stunning! We hope to have the opportunity to visit that part of Spain sometime in the future and we would not hesitate to recommend your properties.

    Two different holiday home for ourselves designed for ourselves

    We were seduced by Spain on a riding holiday in the Alpujarras, south of Granada, in 1991. In 1998 we bought Casa Morisca, ALBUÑUELAS, as an abandoned ruin and had it restored as a holiday home for ourselves at a time when we were working and we got out there 2 or 3 times each year for a week or two. We let it for holidays when not using it ourselves and have had visitors from many parts of the world.

    We are now retired and spend more time in Spain and came to love this corner of Andalucía and in 2005 we bought a quarter share in a mill in DIEZMA which was converted into an alternative holiday for ourselves, Casa Molino. We now have two village homes and both are available for holiday lets.

    These two houses are on opposite sides of Granada. They have many features in common but are quite different in style. CASA MORISCA has exposed beams, the charm of a centuries-old Moorish style property with an original fountain and is in the centre of the steep and narrow barrio bajo. CASA MOLINO is more spacious and modern, having a pool, central heating and its own parking. It has stunning views of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

    Both houses are only 30 minutes to Granada, and being an hour to the Costa Tropical and the SKIING on Sierra Nevada, ideal centres to explore Granada city and the province. Both offer extensive WALKING and CYCLING from the door. Granada airport is about 35 minutes and Málaga 90 minutes. Restaurants, bars, shops, bank, bus and weekly market are within walking distance and, being just far enough from the coast, neither is a tourist area but real Spain. The locals speak Spanish but are very friendly.
