Vacation Rental Description
For something different and more authentic, try exploring the interior of Andalucía along the "route of the white villages." The Ruta de Pueblos Blancos, Andalucía's charm bracelet of cute towns, gives you wonderfully untouched Spanish culture. Spend some time in the romantic queen of the white towns, Arcos de la Frontera. Towns with "de la Frontera" in their names were established on the front line of the Christians' centuries-long fight to recapture Spain from the Moors, who were slowly pushed back into Africa. Today, these hill towns—no longer strategic and no longer on any frontier—are just passing time peacefully. The thoughtful traveler's challenge is to find meaning in the generally overlooked tiny details of historic towns such as Arcos. The 13th century church of Santa María faces Plaza Cabildo with a fascinating viewpoint, where locals brag that you only see the backs of the birds as they fly!. A short walk from the church of Santa María to the church of San Pedro is littered with fun glimpses into the town's past.
This little house is located amongst the labyrinth of narrow streets in the old town and is a photographer's delight. Enter through a shared patio with orange tree. Rustic kitchen. Balcony and outside terrace with stunning views of lake and surrounding sierras. Patio furniture. Quiet area, but various very good restaurants, bars and shops in walking distance. Easy driving distance to Cadiz, Jerez, Seville, Granada, Gibraltar and only 45 minutes drive from the long golden beaches of Costa de la Luz. Car hire recommended.
Arcos is a very hilly town, built on a cliff and the location of the property, which is on a steep hill does make it unsuitable for the elderly or disabled. Whilst access with a car to the street door is possible to offload luggage/shopping etc, you can only park in the street below, therefore you have to walk the short distance back up the hill. The one bedroom apartment would not be suitable for small children as it is high up and there is a low wall around the patio.
