Casa de Alcornocales is a large, beautifully restored 18th-century house in Alcala de los Gazules. Alcala is a typical Andalucian 'Pueblo Blanco' (white village), without mass tourism. Suitable for a family, friends or a group; the property is very spacious. Alcala lies on the border of the vast Alcornocales Natural Park. The house offers comfort, relaxation and 'breathes' history. Until 50 years ago Casa Alcornocales was a "hostel" for travellers and their mules! The stables were on the ground floor (now an art studio) and the guest rooms above. During the restoration, the beautiful tiled floors and old wooden doors have been retained. The decor is stylishly simple. The whitewashed walls contrast beautifully with the blue/grey painted doors and window frames.
Casa de Alcornocales is built into the hillside and is on 2 levels. On the ground floor are the big studio and 3 en-suite bedrooms. On the first floor are the entrance hall, living room, dining room and kitchen and tucked away is the 4th en-suite bedroom. At the back of the house is a lovely sheltered patio with a dinning area and a small splash pool (3.5x3m) perfect for cooling off in. There is plenty of sunshine with stunning views from the large roof terrace to the adjacent Natural Park. The owners Helen & Andrew live near by, Andrew is an artist and the house is covered in beautiful pictures and drawings. They supply plenty of information about all the wonderful things to do in the area. For those interested in art classes this can be easily arranged.
Alcala is in the centre of the Province of Cadiz and lies between sea and mountain. Awarded ‘Historic- Artistic’ status it has 12th century Moorish origins with winding narrow streets, hill top views of miles of uninterrupted beautiful and dramatic scenery.
There are many restaurants offering the local cuisine and a bar on every corner! The highway/auto-via A-381 can be easily accessed from the bottom of the town. Gibraltar and Jerez Airports are only 40 minutes away (60km), Seville Airport 1 1/2 hrs and Malaga Airport 2hrs away.
The unspoilt beaches of the Costa de Luz are 30 minutes away, perfect for relaxing, sailing or for water sports. Jerez and Cadiz under an hour away for Flamenco, Sherry Tours, the Royal Equestrian School, the Horse Fair, Golf, Bull Fighting, Motor Racing, Tapas Tours, the Hammam, Museums, Galleries and so much more. The Alcornocales Park is on your doorstep ideal for walkers, nature lovers and artists, there are plenty of outdoor pursuits. The famous city of Seville is less than 1 1/2 hours away or perhaps you fancy a day trip on the ferry to Morocco or to go Whale and Dolphin watching.

Activities
In the immediate vicinity there are most outdoor pursuits. Beach activities are a 30-minute drive away. This area is renowned for wind/kite surfing and there is plenty of tuition and equipment hire available.
In the town there are tennis courts, two municipal swimming pools, and two children’s play areas (small). Alcala is a popular hunting town; the area is rich in game and bird life. Alcala is also on the migration route, a perfect spot for ornithologists. Horse riding is also popular; hire and/or lessons are available.

House rental, the minimum booking is for one week. We prefer bookings from Saturday to Saturday but we can be flexible about this depending on what else we have booked in. All prices are fully inclusive of electricity, gas,linen, towels and cleaning. 25% deposit secures with the balance due 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. We also offer B&B at 50 Euros per night for a double room, we prefer bookings for two nights or more. Payment can be made via bank transfer or cash on arrival.

Alcala de los Gazules Stunning Capital Town of the Alcornocales Natural Park
We live in Alcala de los Gazules in Andalucia and run painting and activity holidays as well as rent out our beautiful Andalucian town house. We took a sabbatical from work in England 2005 and spent a year spent sailing around Europe looking for inspiration for a different way of life. We fell in love with Andalucia; found Alcala and put all we had into converting a ruined house to incorporate an art studio and guest accommodation. It was a tough road but we have made lots of new friends and love our life here.
Alcala de los Gazules is a small hill top town lying between sea and mountain so it was an easy decision, unspoilt beauty, a perfect location and typically Spanish. We have on our doorstep easy access to all rural activities as well as beach and water activities near by; this area is a nature lover’s paradise.
There are many local fiestas, the most popular are the Romeria (Sept), Semana Santa (Easter) and the Classical Music Festival in August.
Alcala de los Gazules awarded ‘Historic- Artistic’ status has 12th century Moorish origins with winding narrow streets, hill top views of miles of uninterrupted beautiful and dramatic scenery. The house is over 200 years old located in the centre of Alcala so everything is within walking distance, shops, bars, restaurants or a stroll. Alcala is the Capital town of the Alcornocales Natural Park, walking, hiking and cycling routes are on the doorstep, the office granting the necessary permissions is at the top of the town. There are many local bars and restaurants offering good value Andaluz cuisine, this area specialises in seasonal dishes of game, wild asparagus, thistle and snails.
