Beautifully restored old village house with stunning valley and mountain views in peaceful pueblo.
Vacation Rental Description
Casa Lala is situated in the hill village, or pueblo, of Lucar, facing south across the Almanzora Valley to the Sierra de los Filabres. It has been lovingly restored to a high level using original and typical local materials with old wooden beams throughout. As it is built into the rock, it is on many levels, with changes of height and steps from room to room, some of them irregular. This makes the house unsuitable for the infirm or small children. There are breathtaking views from every room in the house. Outside is a private patio, both covered and open, plus a tiled terrace from the main bedroom. The patio has 2 loungers, a table and 5 chairs.
A beautiful beamed kitchen with carpenter-built fitted wood units and work surface opens onto the outside patio. It has electric cooker, touch-control ceramic hob, belfast sink, fridge with freezer section and is very well-equipped. Off the kitchen is the utility room with basin and toilet, water heater, modern washing machine, iron, ironing board, and much more useful equipment. (see inventory)
The cosy sitting room with low original beamed ceiling has a lovely open fire (firewood provided), double sofa bed (bedding in chest), two cane chairs, and side table, plus many books, maps, DVD player, stereo, etc. It has a reverse-cycle A/C unit (both heating and cooling).
Leaving the sitting room you enter a dining area with extending table and 5 chairs, heater.
The single bedroom leads off this area at the bottom of the stairs and has a fan, heater, built-in shelves, etc.
Climbing the stairs, you first reach the bathroom with basin, bath/shower over, bidet, toilet, cupboard, heater, towel rails, etc.
The lovely beamed master bedroom is twin-bedded and opens onto the enclosed terrace with wonderful views across the valley. It has a built-in wardrobe, bedside cabinets, chest and reverse-cycle air conditioning.
All linen and towels are provided, including beach towels. Please ask for the very detailed inventory.
The patio and front of the house are planted with maturing local plants, watered with a timed system. A good stock of firewood is available.
Foot access is recommended from nearby parking. There is a small parking space adjacent to the house, but access to this is not for the faint-hearted (a very narrow way built for donkeys not cars!). We provide maps of the village and surrounding area, plus information about places to visit. Lucar is very Spanish and a step back in time. There are springs where drinking water is collected, cave houses, and some donkeys are still used on the land, returning at the end of the day laden with fodder. There are olive groves, exquisite almond and orange blossom in the spring, delicious figs and flame-coloured pomegranates. The area is wonderful walking and bird watching country.
Lucar has an excellent open air swimming pool, free to residents, open in July and August. It has a good bars open all year round. Nearby villages also have pools and bars.
The coast is one hour to the east - Vera (including a naturist section), Mojacar and down to Cabo da Gata; one and a half hours south over the mountains - a wonderful journey - to Roquetas de Mar and Almeria.
The closest airports are Granada and Almeria (both about one and a half hours or so and served by low-cost airlines). Malaga is another hour on from Granada. Car hire is essential. We have details of most flights and car hire companies to send you. We also provide comprehensive route details from most airports, plus photographs of the route to Casa Lala.

Facilities
Large private and sunny patio leading from the kitchen and first floor terrace from the bedroom. The village has a very good free swimming pool with life guard open in July and August and the nearby village of Cela has a large thermal outdoor pool surrounded by restaurants and bars. Within the village are two small, but well-stocked supermarkets, butchers, bakers and chemist, plus consultorio (doctor's surgery). A new wine bodega sells very good local wine at a good price with free tastings and tours. The pool bar and restaurant, plus 3 other bars are open year round and serve basic, but cheap meals or tapas. Almost everything is provided for guests and a full inventory available electronically. Internet access is available in the Town Hall. There is a small parking space, but access is difficult, otherwise parking on roadside nearby. All services, including firewood are free with the rental.
Activities
Birdwatching and walking.
We can provide details of horse riding, golf course (about 1 hour's drive) and other attractions such as the 'spagetti western' theme parks at Tabernas, again about one hour away.
Skiing is available in season in the Sierra Nevada, about 2 hours drive away.
Granada is about an hour and a half's drive and is well worth a visit, or if flying via Granada, many visitors spend a night or two there en route.

A non-refundable deposit of £50 is needed to secure the booking. The balance is paid 6 weeks before departure. Cancellations within the 6 week period forfeit 50% of the amount paid, unless we are able to re-let the week(s) booked. No refunds within one week of departure. We will send you a booking form either electronically by e.mail, or by post. Price per week: July and August: £200 April to October: £150 November to March: £100 Weeks including Christmas and/or New Year: £200 Extra days, short breaks and rentals of two or more weeks will be individually negotiated. Guests in excess of 2 incur a nominal extra linen charge. Payment can be by crossed cheque, bank transfer or Paypal. Please contact us if you would like us to arrange car hire and/or flights for you. There will be a small administration cost for this service.
