La Mamola is located in the most Eastern zone of the coast of Granada. The distance that separates it of the capital of the province is of about 150 km, Almeria is at 80 km towards the East and Motril is at 30 Km towards the West. The access to La Mamola, administrative capital of the Municipality of the La Mamola-Polopos, is made through the N-340 highway.

The village is perfect for water sports such as scuba diving, seafishing is very popular, there are also children's play areas on the beach. Golf is available in Motril which is less than 30 minutes drive away and there are plans for a more local golf course. Horse riding is available on the beach in Salobrena. The ski resort of the Sierra Nevada is about 1 hour away by car. Other nearby attractions include Granada with the historic Alhambra palace and the Alpujarras with its stunning mountain villages are just a few miles inland from the village.

Dolphins can sometimes be seen playing near the beach and birds of prey and mountain goats can be seen from the rear balcony.
