Vacation Rental Description
La Molineta is a beautiful group of Andalucian houses in the hills between Nerja and Frigiliana, each with private terraces and exceptionally beautiful mature terraced gardens of scented plants and fruit trees carefully tended by a gardener. The complex has views over the valleys and foothills of the Alpujarras and the national park onto which it borders being on a hillside has views down to the sea which twinkles in the distance.
Rosario, at the heart of the complex is an architecturally interesting former water mill, furnished with beautiful art and antiques and featured regularly in architectural and design magazines. It has been converted from ruins into a comfortable family house for all occasions. The entrance hall doubles up as the winter sitting room, including a dining table and chairs, a wood burning stove with comfortable seating and TV with satellite TV, DVD, and CD player. Leading off this, the large fitted kitchen has all mod cons and a pretty dining table with olive wood chairs. The morning room also leads off the sitting room and interconnects with the kitchen and a terrace again has a table and chairs and makes a wonderful winter sun trap. The heart of the house is on a grand scale with large stair well and curving iron staircase, impressive baronial hall for dining and entertaining, with large welcoming fireplace for colder nights, dining space for 14 and seating for approximately 30 people. Its high ceilings and thick walls fend off the heat in summer months. The wide French doors lead out to the creeper covered terraces and private swimming pool, surrounded by mature flowering plants and trees. Throughout the property's grounds interesting remains of its former industrial existence are scattered, millwheels used as tables, grinding stones as benches, an aged terracotta bath as water feature and so on. Ancient olive trees offer shelter from the sun and the terraces offer sunbathing opportunities.
In the house, upstairs, is a lovely master bedroom suite with dressing room, generous cupboard space, and en suite bathroom. This delightful arrangement of rooms has a double door out on to its own terrace sheltered by an olive tree, and steps down through the garden to the terraces and swimming pool. The second double bedroom looks down the valley below the Molineta and across the hills. It has a large double bed, a ceiling fan and generous cupboard space. The third bedroom is a twin room with the same glorious view, and again has generous cupboards and ceiling fan. The fourth bedroom is also a twin room and looks across the little square at the heart of La Molineta at La Casita one of La Molineta's prettiest cottages. It also has a ceiling fan and generous cupboards. These three bedrooms share a large bathroom at one end of the corridor and a generous shower room at the other. Also on the upper floor is the laundry where there is a washing machine, drying area, tumble dryer and an iron.
Our cheerful group of cleaning staff from Frigiliana come in to clean the house on Saturdays as they have for many years now. They pride themselves on the cleanliness of the properties at La Molineta. The gardens are maintained by a full time gardener and handy man, Sebastian, who when you can understand his Andalucian accent, is invariably extremely helpful. He keeps the properties spic and span and fully functional. He is also responsible for maintaining the swimming pools which should at all times be clean and usable though not necessarily warm in winter. There is a manager who lives round the corner, Juvenal and his wife Sam. They speak fluent English and Spanish and can resolve most difficulties and answer your questions and requests.
Larger groups can share a holiday at La Molineta by taking neighbouring houses and so avoiding being on top of one another - together and separate, the best of both worlds.

There are also the Cuevas de Nerja that are fascinating to visit. They are a set of vast underground caverns with a variety interesting early remains including the skeleton of a Civil war soldier who must have got lost and died there.
