Casa Lorca is a lovely villa set beside a wide, sandy beach. It's perfect for a relaxing family holiday.
Vacation Rental Description
Casa Lorca is in a small development and looks out onto the Mediterranean by the wide sandy beach of Playa Marques. The large and quiet communal pool (plus toddlers pool) is one hundred metres from your door and has direct private access onto the beach. Playa Marques itself is simply too big to ever get crowded. For example the picture below with the lifeguard in it was taken in June. Access is easy from the airports at Almeria, Murcia and Alicante.
Perhaps our best recommendation is that Casa Lorca is usually fully booked each season through from Easter to October with many repeat visitors.
The layout of the house lends itself well to small or large parties of friends or extended families. The furnishings are a mix of new and antique and there are CD and DVD players and Satellite TV which receives UK TV and Radio. There are five good-sized bedrooms and four bathrooms three of which have baths and showers and the fourth has a large walk-in shower.
The kitchen is equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and electric cooker. There is a barbecue outside for eating alfresco on the terrace or in the garden which is planted with palms and colourful plants plus ones such as jasmine, rosemary and lavender for scent on the evening air.
If you want to stroll a couple of hundred yards along the beach you will find Antonio's friendly and inexpensive familiy-run beach bar/restaurant, El Chumbo. It is a relaxed, friendly place much used by the locals and does everything from ice creams and burgers for the children to paella and seafood. It is open all day and evening in the summer. Although there are plenty of other places to eat in the area visitors often don't trouble going any further.
There is a large supermarket two minutes drive away and other shops nearby. The weekly village and town markets provide good fresh produce and are fun to visit.
As for things to do, there is tennis, riding, a gym, scuba-diving, boat trips, fishing etc all to be enjoyed in the area. For golfers there are four excellent courses within five to fifteen minutes drive of Casa Lorca.
For children there is a waterpark minutes away and the famous Hollywood Theme Park out in the countryside which is made from the film sets left over from when classics such as the Clint Eastwood 'Spaghetti Westerns' were filmed in the sun-bleached landscapes of this part of Spain. They have cowboy shoot-outs daily (which dads find irresistible).
Minutes away is the fishing village of Villaricos which has bar/restaurants overlooking its tiny twin harbours. Beyond that the quiet country road follows the sea past coves and small beaches. Going the other way is the port of Garrucha with seafood restaurants around the harbour. Then there is the small resort of Mojacar with its many shops, beach bars and restaurants. Above it lies the old white hilltop town of Mojacar Pueblo which is a warren of streets to explore with stunning views across the sea and the surrounding countryside.
Beyond lies the Cabo de Gata National Park with its own coves and hidden places whilst inland lie the Sierra Cabrera mountains and Cortijo Grande valley with sleepy little towns and village dotted around quiet roads and tracks.
Facilities
The layout of the villa means it can equally accommodate smaller or large parties of up to ten people. There are three double and four single beds in the five bedrooms plus four bathrooms and two lounges spread between the first, ground and lower ground floors. The location is good for children as we are not near a main road and access to our small development is gated whilst access to the pool and beach is by electric gates for which you need a key. Cots, hi-chairs and stair gates are available if you have small children. Although the pool is communal there are not many residents with access to it and even in high summer it is often not greatly used.
Activities
We provide our visitors with an information sheet which has details of places to go, things to do and restaurants to try which you might not otherwise find.
Within fifteen minutes of Casa Lorca you can enjoy boating, scuba-diving, a golf driving range, tennis, a gym, golfing, horse riding or take the kids to a water park. There's a little shop in the village up the road where you can buy flippers and snorkels or a rod and line if you want to fish off the beach - lots of local people do so there must be something out there to catch.
Or you can just stroll along the beach which runs for several kilometres down to the port of Garrucha and, if you make it that far, reward yourself with lunch in one of the fish restaurants on the quay....
Travel Options
- Travel Info: You can fly into the airports at Almeria, Murcia or Alicante. The drive-times obviously depend on how fast you go but we do them in 45 mins, 90 mins and 120 mins respectively. The journey from each to the villa is straightforward. It is on motorway most of the way and we provide detailed directions. About Us and Casa Lorca
Brian and Anne Sharman have owned Casa Lorca since it was built in 2003. Brian is a barrister and Anne is a teacher. We live in Dorset.
We bought Casa Lorca as a holiday home and to rent out. With both uses in mind, and having gone on villa holidays over the years when the children were growing up, we knew the pluses and minuses to look out for when choosing a place to buy for ourselves.
Probably like you we had some good villa experiences and some not so good such as the busy main road at one place being between us and the beach and an all-night disco nearby at another - of course the owners' adverts had conveniently forgotten to mention these little details.
With Casa Lorca we felt there were no minuses. It is relaxing and child-friendly which means that parents can enjoy it too. Its size and layout suits either a large family, groups of friends or two smaller families who want to holiday together. Items for young children such as cots and hi-chairs are available.
The house is yards from the beach and right next to it is the pool area which you can see in the photo. Casa Lorca is on a small development of similar villas and is quiet. Most of the other villas are used as holiday homes and only visited occasionally by their owners so even in high summer it is never busy.
The whole area is made for family holidays and there are no package tourists or noisy discos nearby! If you have teenage children or older they can go for a night out in the nearby resort of Mojacar and late taxis will get them home. There is no 'yob' element to worry about and, like our kids, they'll have a good time.
