Vacation Rental Description
Casa Azul is located in a quiet street in the heart of the walled and cobbled old town of Peniche, within easy walking distance of fabulous beaches, coastline, marina, cafes and restaurants. The three-bedroom house was traditionally built in the typical Portuguese style over 100 years ago, and has been recently modernized to offer spacious and comfortable accommodation. There is a generously sized courtyard, perfect for outside dining, while upstairs the rear bedroom has a secluded balcony overlooking the rooftops of this harbour town. The thick walls of this traditionally built house with its marble features and tiled floors means no air conditioning is required.
This holiday can be car-free as most Peniche attractions are walkable; Obidos and Lisbon are reachable by public transport. For breakfast, visitors can buy freshly baked bread and pastries from a range of bakeries close to the house, and after a day exploring the coast or on the beach, all the wonderful restaurants and cafes are a short walk away. Peniche is a gastronomes delight - with the restaurants serving up the delicious local wines and produce, including olives, cheeses and of course fish, the catch of the day from the harbour. The rental price is all-inclusive with no hidden extras. Cleaning, linen and the services of our on-call manager are all part of your stay at Casa Azul. Transfers from Lisbon Airport can be arranged as part of the service. Reasonably-priced extras such as a welcome pack of food and drink, as well as flowers, are also available.
A stay at Casa Azul combines the best of both worlds: a stay in an authentically Portuguese harbour town, with the outstanding beaches and other visitor attractions and amenities close by.
Facilities
The downstairs (36 sq metres) comprises a spacious open plan living area with adjoining dining area and kitchen equipped with crockery, cutlery, utensils, cookware, etc. Downstairs toilet and separate laundry room/storage areas, Outsde, the large courtyard (16 sq metres) is partially shaded for outside dining.Two barbeques provided. Up the marble staircase is the hallway leading to the three bedrooms plus toilet/shower room. At the front of the house is the main double bedroom (15.5 sq metres) which has space for an extra fold-down single bed if required. The single bedroom is 7 sq metres, while the rear bedroom (9 sq metres) has a single bed, or double bed if required by guests. This room opens onto a small secluded balcony overlooking the courtyard and rooftops. (Max: two doubles and two singles, for 4 - 6 people) No air conditioning is required as this traditionally built house has thick walls and stays cool.
Activities
Wonderful choice of beaches from the family-friendly, to body-boarding to world class surfing beaches including Supertubos. Excellent coastal paths around the peninsula for bird-watching and Atlantic views. Excursions to the Isle of Berlenga, a nature reserve, from Peniche marina. A pre-dinner walk to the light-house is recommended. The fishermen in their small boats are a daily feature. Shopping at the Municipal Market is a pleasure.Traditional festivals and carnivals take place throughout the year. The town and region are steeped in history. Peniche is a traditional centre of lace-making, sessions can be viewed and examples bought. There is a fascinating historic fort and museum. The beautiful Estramadura region, inlcuding Obidos and Caldas da Raina,is full of castles, churches and monastries. Lisbon Zoo, The Gulbenkien Museum and the new Paula Rego Museum, for example, make a a great day out. Or just relax in one of the many cafes.

We Love Peniche
We first came to Peniche in 2000, and with the help of our friend Domingos, the following year we bought and modernised this former fisherman's cottage in the old town. We feel it's one of the best decisions we have ever made. Peniche is 'real' Portugal not a tourist version of it and we love coming here to experience their way of life. Peniche is a down-to-earth harbour town with a thriving fishing industry. It also has what most people are looking for in a relaxing holiday - sun, sea, sand, historic attractions, fabulous local cuisine and unspoilt landscape. Lisbon is also handy for day trips; it is a wonderful city with so much to see and do - and very friendly.
