It’s a wonderful and peaceful location with good local restaurants, bakery, supermarket, bus stop, rent a car and other services. The apartment is also in a walking distance from Garajau beach, with limpid waters and home of one of the most exciting diving spot in Europe. The district of Garajau, originally a sleepy fishing village named after the flocks of terns that used to nest in the area, is now one of the most popular residential district of Funchal.
Situated along the cliffs, with spectacular ocean views south towards the Desertas Islands, Garajau is only 10 minutes from Funchal to the west and from the airport to the east. On a bluff below Garajau you will find a towering statue of Christ with outstretched arms, modelled on the one at Rio de Janeiro - definitely worth a visit to watch the sun set against the backdrop of the Bay of Funchal.
A new cable car descends the steep cliff to the pebble beach, newly built changing rooms and restaurant below. The coastline conservation area at Garajau, one of Europe's first underwater nature reserves, provides a sanctuary for whales, dolphins and seals.
